I would say I'm getting too old for this shit...

But I'm having waaay too much fun to complain about it, so I'll just shut my mouth.

I got a cumulative 9 hours of sleep for the whole weekend. And what with moving a ton of boxes, dancing my ass off Friday and Saturday, plus a swell costume party, wonderful time spent with friends, and getting pampered by lovely Amy in KC--I'm beat. Absolutely beat. And although I am still bone tired despite getting 8 hours of sleep last night, I wouldn't have changed a thing about the weekend. Bliss! Well, except for the boxes...

OK I'm gonna say it here, because I know it worked for when I got my tongue pierced. If I announce my intentions to friends, I'll feel like a total pussy if I back out afterwards. So I'm telling you all that I plan to try out for Sellout as one of their singers. I'm absolutely terrified. In the last week or so I've done a few things that, in the past, I would never have considered. Hearing about [livejournal.com profile] breathofgold's audition made me realize my fears are getting in the way of some potentially positive experiences. Some of you might know how shy I am about my singing voice, so this is a big Big Big deal. This morning I wrote Nick (Jim Morrison for those of you who know the band) and I'm waiting to hear back. Hell, they might not even be looking anymore, but I figure it's worth a shot. I'd like to do two modern songs and two retro songs that show my upper and lower range. But first I have to get over this current bout of consumption. cough, wheeze The songs I'm considering auditioning with:
  • Bring Me to Life
  • Criminal
  • One Way or Another
    and either:
  • Hit Me With Your Best Shot or
  • I Will Survive

The worst they can say is No. Right?

Anyone who got pics of me in the Bad Schoolgirl outfit: I'd love digital copies. If you got photos with Principal McKitterick and Sister Mary Magdalene--bonus! Send those, too, please. Thanks.

For those kind souls who are willing to help me move this weekend: Yes, we're on for moving furniture (and only the furniture) on Saturday. All the boxes are out with the exception of a very few (and most of those will fit in my CRX). My few pieces of furniture (and the oven) are fairly large and will require strong boys. I appreciate any help you all can give me. I'd like to get started no later than 10 a.m. and be wrapped up by noon or so. Please let me know who I can count on for moving day ASAP.

    You go for it, girl!

    [identity profile] skyflame.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for suggesting the Jazzhaus for this weekend, and thanks again Friday after the show for asking if I would be there for Saturday's event as well. :)

(You could also dress up as the Catholic schoolgirl and do "Hot For Teacher", if they know the song. If the band knew what they were in for, they might even learn it for you. ;)

Not being one to bother changing the pronouns for girl/boy songs, I imagine this would conjure all sorts of lovely images for the audience. ;) I don't have a great "rock singer" voice, though. I'm a little too melodic. So I'm afraid Van Halen covers aren't in my future.

I'm so glad you had a good time!

    [identity profile] skyflame.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
One of these days I might even learn how to dance. :P

It's too bad I didn't have a camera when you were standing up on the bench right as the second set started. That would have been a picture to make you proud. ;)

    [identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't swear to it, but I'm sure I've heard them do it in a rock set in times past.
    whooo yah.

    You go girl!

    [identity profile] angelbedwell.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
When it comes down to chosing the pieces...you'll just automatically gravitate towards the one you're more comfortable with! And I love your voice and your spirit - you'd be great!

    Psssst...it's all about having fun!

Think we could get together Sunday evening? I'm already waaaaay South for Theatre in the Park rehearsal gets over around 4:30 and I could drive from there to Lawrence :)

    Re: You go girl!

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
    And I love your voice
When did you hear me sing? Or do you mean my lovely speaking voice? ;)

Well Sunday is Halloween. You aren't going to take your girls out?

    Re: You go girl!

    [identity profile] angelbedwell.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh shit, it is, isn't it? We're making a movie "Witches vs. Vampires" with the neighborhood kids. Well, we'll figure something out to get together soon :)

    Anyway...yaaay! Go you!

    [identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Just throw your ass out there, my dear, and see what comes of it. If it works, way spiffy. If it doesn't you know you had the balls to give it a shot. Either way, you win, you know.

Exactly! Bravery has its rewards, many of which are unexpected.

    Chris

    [identity profile] lightonthesill.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the key - just get your ass out there - it's much easier to get on a roll of taking risks once you take One. May the force be with you m'dear!

    [identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
On Auditioning: Good for you! I'm sure you can draw a good size crowd that would cheer for you no matter how it went. Even if they said no, what fun to be up there one night with people screaming and cheering you on!

On Pictures: We didn't get our camera out until later in the evening, so we only got one picture of the outfit (http://gallery.wisler.org/halloween_party_2004/a2b6). There were much better poses than that one during the night. I think Hilary got some. Mac could post the URL to her pics, I'm sure.

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
    Yeah, that's not terribly flattering.

    [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_mac_/ 2004-10-25 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)

That pic was from Hil's camera. I'll ask my friend James if he got any good shots of the naughty school girl.

Also - ROCK ON with the Sellout audition! \mm/ >_< \mm/

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-26 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be very happy indeed if James got some good photos. Thanks.

    [identity profile] hurricanedeck.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome! And then when you get to be their singer I get to say that I know this hot rock star!

    Good luck!

    Yay! Go! :)

    [identity profile] normalcyispasse.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
    1) I think you should indeed audition. My votes are for Criminal and I Will Survive.

    2) It looks like I'm busy on Saturday (TKD tourney), but I can help with what you have on the AM Sunday. I'd be more than glad to do what I can!

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
I audition with four songs, so the toss up is between I Will Survive and Hit Me With Your Best Shot. Definitely doing Criminal.

    [identity profile] skyflame.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'd go with Hit Me. Pat Benatar = melodic.

    [identity profile] kijjohnson.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I Will Survive, definitely. You were into that song when they played it Saturday night.

    [identity profile] skyflame.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, now the lovely and talented CR can't go wrong with either choice. ;)

    [identity profile] adammaker.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
    Go for the audition!
Have a blast, and remember that when you life is already changing, that is the best time to try new things... Trust me on this one, it's been the story of my life for the last 4 months!

I can help lift this weekend.

    [identity profile] sandmansister.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
We have a frightening amount in common... I actually won $50 in free cocktails a couple weeks ago for doing "Bring Me To Life" at a karaoke contest! Go you, I was petrified to post the links to the live recording of the first gig that [livejournal.com profile] meatpie and I did... but can't live without it, so whatcha gonna do? (We're actually working up an acoustic cover since the karaoke went well!)

And I wore *my* bad schoolgirl outfit to [livejournal.com profile] lucifershalo's B-Day bash last weekend. What bad good company I keep! LOL

    *snugs*

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
    Aaaaah! Separated at birth!!!

I wore *my* bad schoolgirl outfit to lucifershalo's B-Day bash last weekend
Show me yours and I'll show you mine. ;)

    [identity profile] sandmansister.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
How could I possibly refuse such an offer?

    [identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
That Kicks Ass (tm)! I so hope you get to audition, because everyone who knows you knows that your infectious spirit alone would get you a good deal of the way toward making the band, plus a lovely voice = you go girl.

    Chris

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
Now I know you haven't heard me sing, either, so be careful there. I might have a terrible voice and now you're stuck with having those words in print.

    [identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, Ms. CR, you forget those kitchen concerts as you were cookin'. We could hear you even if the CD player was turned way up.

weirdness!!!!!! beleive it or not-.I was thinking about you this weekend and gonna email you today and ask WHY you weren't singing publicly....funny huh???

I am the same way with singing-but worse, I only sing in silly voices or for real when I'm drunk......I have neither balls or experience to belt it out in public.

but you have BOTH and should be singing!

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-25 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The level at which my friends and I find ourselves on the same wavelengths is often downright scary!!!

I would so love to be a torch singer, too. That and Patsy Cline-style country singing are my strong points.

I'd love to help you out with harmonies! Because I have a fairly malleable voice, I'm very good at harmony. I can mimic vocal inflections to blend my voice with others. I'd need to brush up on my B-52's music, though. Haven't listened to them since college (hangs head in shame).
