Every sweet imagined possibility
Guardian/adjacent:
Fanart: Angel/Demon.
It's never a bad time to stare at Zhu Yilong's pectorals again. Also his jawline and sternocleidomastoid. There must be a sexier name for sternocleidomastoid.
A piece of good news: ATLA returns to Netflix on May 15.
I finished the most boring section in Duolingo this morning--the one for "people." Ha ha, oh the irony. I do not care that Julia es cubana and I certainly don't need to have that repeated twenty times good LORD. I realize that repetition is key, but the entire five part lesson consisted solely of introductions ("my name is" "her name is") and where people are from (most of them from Cuba with one poor lonely soul from China). So glad to be done with that.
Feeling surprisingly alert/physically capable, so today will be my second attempt at mask-making. The original foray was thwarted when my fatigue brain couldn't process the instructions. /o\ For context, I used to be capable of sewing custom Elizabethan-style bodices and costumes like this. Chronic illness is a trip, y'all.
I mentioned on Twitter that McKitterick had never seen Yentl, which... that was just unacceptable so he actually bought the DVD and we watched it this week. If you, too, haven't seen it in, uh...probably 30 years? let me reassure you it holds up. There was only one tiny cringey thing which, in context, made sense but... well, eh, maybe I should make a post about Yentl? It was a very formative movie for little Manka let's just say. Any other Yentl fans in the house?

My mom kept the soundtrack when I went to college so 1988 was probably the last time I ever sang to it* and I still remembered probably 90% of the lyrics. SO GOOD.
*I performed "This is One of Those Moments" at a vocal competition in 8th grade awwwwwwwwww

Indeed.
ALL the solidarity.
It sucks not having the brain
to read emails
to read Dreamwidth
to read books on kindle
some/most days...

My can't-even-read days are fortunately few and far between but there are times I can do is sit on the couch and wait for a better day.
I hope your days like that are minimal.

Yay for feeling alert/physically capable! Fingers crossed it'll stick around for a bit at least. And wow, that's some excellent sewing. I hope your mask-making attempt turns out well!
Yentl ... IIRC I never fully clicked with the movie because it partially hit my embarrassment squick, but I loved the soundtrack.

Huh! The embarrassment squick thing didn't trigger at all for me. So interesting how we absorb different experiences of the same thing, isn't i?

I'm really excited about ATLA, tumblr has primed me to love it, it's gonna be fun seeing where all the memes/references come from :D
LOL my brain was struggling so hard with Hindi adjectives until I hit the animal section and then BOOM it was like my brain woke up and started working again..hehee to hell with Raj's daughter's friends, tell me more about these black cows and large elephants and small rats/mice!
I need to try to do masks again, last week's attempts made me feel bad about myself. (fucking perfectionism) But considering I've literally never sewn more than a hem before, I suppose I'm not doing too bad. :D
I'm glad your well-being has come up enough for you to make another foray. :D
I may have seen Yentl once? I would love to read a post from you about the movie. :D

I hope you love ATLA! how exciting that you'll get to see it for the first time!
Definitely don't feel bad about yourself with the mask sewing. I used to be a fairly accomplished sewing person and neither of the test models I made today were usable for glasses-wearers. 👎

I think I will, the themes I've seen discussed and the humor have appealed to me for a while, I just haven't had it together enough to track down watching it. Having it handed to me makes that much easier :D
My most successful mask was the one that I 'mapped out' on a paper towel first. I may try that again. God the glasses issue! I don't feel brave enough to try the patterns with the nose rise again. I attempted that once and was very overwhelmed. But it looks like I'll have plenty of time to practice heh

Also, I've never seen Yentl. So I was thinking of adding it to the queue. Then as I read through comments, I see it's a musical. Sorry, no. Not a fan of musicals. Maybe I'll go read the wiki page about it.

I just watched In and Out again yesterday, and it has that one iconic quote in it: "She was too OLD for Yentl." Which starts a brawl, lol.
I have not seen Yentl in ages, either.

GOOD POINT.
Ahhhhh! I missed a lot of general 90s culture and I never saw that movie (SOMEONE TAKE MY QUEER CARD). I think it might have to be one of those (like The Birdcage) that you had to have been there at the time. But maybe not! Do you think it holds up?
(Yentl holds up absolutely. Watch it again. Waaaaatch itttttttttt.)

I totally think it does. It has such funny dialogue, and such excellent (and still comedic) commentary on being queer, and it treats all of its characters with respect (except maybe the very minor side-character anorexic model girlfriend). We all love it a lot. greyathena and I had such a good time with it last night. And Kevin Kline's face is a delight in anything he does, so, yeah. I think it totally holds up. (And the movie seems to be free on starz. I wouldn't know, I have it on dvd.)

I probably should. I just sat through a whole 18-episode Taiwanese drama about a girl masquerading as a boy, and I think I need to exorcise that.

Oh, do I feel this. I used to sew SCA costumes, made my own wedding dress, hemmed and seamed for drama club, all of it. I could probably still manage to work out a simple pattern from instructions on a good day, if I had a sewing machine. Maybe. Perhaps.

This and the return of Leverage will be what prevents me from wearing out my Untamed DVDs within the year.

Oh, bb, I'm so sorry to hear that. It's hard!
We lose so much and there's... just... nothing? I can do about it except laugh (bitterly sometimes).
I am trying real hard not to get excited about Leverage until I hear a lot more about it. I'll also need to find a way to steal it from Amazon.
