Feeling adrift today. Slightly anxious? Part of that might be the encroaching reality of the fascist regime set to take over the U.S. (I've been psychologically gearing myself up for it since November 9, 2016 but reality hits hard). A lot of it though is the unexpectedness of how fast the end of Deconstruction pulled together. I still need to flesh out the feels a bit, but... *emoji shrug* it's basically... done. (still boggling)

We definitely opened a bottle of champagne as soon as McKitterick was awake yesterday and then got Indian take-out for dinner. I can have a little bit of some types of dairy, now, so I didn't pick out the cheese from the Palak Paneer. It was so good. Whyyyyyy doesn't my palak taste like take-out? I can get it close, but it's still not quite right. Someday...

There's a storm rolling in this morning. It's always a trip to watch the sky get darker as I drink my morning tea. Some thunder is rumbling, and it just started to rain as I typed this sentence. Maybe I'll take my tea to the back door and watch out the patio window. McKitterick has dreams of building us a three-season porch and while I have disallowed him from doing any construction during The Plague Season, it would be nice to have something like that when a thunderstorm rolls in.

Yeah, you articulated what I feel here - not surprised, but still dismayed and horrified. I'm scared, but what to do? It is, as you say, a done deal. We had our chance in 2016 and lost it for a lot of reasons.

I understand people putting all their hopes in the elections but I'm not one of them, sadly. I'll vote, and I'll vote blue, but realistically there is zero chance of change at this point. Ahhh, sorry to be depressed, but it's just...trying times, you know?

Yeah, no, I get it. I think we're both GenX, right? I feel like a lot of our childhood was (horrifically) formed around a sick sort of mental preparation for living in dystopia. The influx of people reading (and teaching) 1984 was a lot of it, but also the Cold War, the popularity of movies like Red Dawn, etc. Then we hit our 20s and it was more cool to be cynical than scared which served us well in the Bush years but we got complacent under Obama.

Ugh. Okay I'm gonna go distract myself from despair now by working on a new PWP.

I'd honestly forgotten how good paneer is. Oh my gosh so good and this place's palak is seriously the best I've ever had. They're also, so far, the only restaurant in town (that isn't just a place I can order a plain burger on a plain salad) where I have yet to suffer G.I. distress even once. *knock wood*. Crossing fingers SO HARD they survive all this.

I miss summer thunderstorms. So dramatic and then I love the aftermath too when everything smells so fresh. Where I live now we get all our rain in winter, rarely in thunderstorm form, and the summer is endless cloud-free days.
