I'm reaching the end of what I can do with Duolingo. It's great as a refresher, but for actual learning it doesn't work for my learning style at all.My mistakes are accumulating to the point where I get several sentences wrong every lesson and I don't understand why my answers are wrong. Because I don't understand, I forget how it's supposed to go when it comes up again. I have to copy the correct answer in a text file so I can just paste it in next time it comes up. For example, why don't I use an article with the sentence Yo quiero ser maestro de español (I want to be a Spanish teacher)? In the "Discuss" section (which is only helpful to me about a third of the time because alas, I am not a good book/text learner) three people asked about that specific one but nobody answered. I'm gonna keep going with the stories section for a while, at least.

I knew this going in, so it's not a surprise or disappointment, I just didn't expect it to happen so soon.

Spoilers blacked out. Only highlight the begging for a one word answer, keep reading for the longer explanation. Yes. But it's not in the main couple's story line. The cheating is for the second couple (Peng Guanying's character cheats on his wife with an intern at his company). What happens with Zhu Yilong's character is that he and his longtime girlfriend break up in the second half of the show. He'll have a brief fling with the lady in the gifs and then get back with his gf by the end (I'm like 99.9999% sure from reading spoilers).

Duolingo failure solidarity! (I fail at German every year or two, about 40% in, because it throws grammar at me and insists I'm not allowed any more vocab until my grammar is letter-perfect. Which isn't do-able without copying and pasting, which is pointless.)

I had to google this to refresh my memory, but you don't use an article with any profession words when you're just saying that someone *is* that thing (Soy profesora, etc.) But you would add in the article if you need to give more info on what that person is doing (La profesora esta en la sala de clase / Hay una profesora en la sala de clase, etc.)

Ugh. Irregular verbs are bad enough. Gendered nouns with the opposite article of their ending vowel are bad enough. Hell, por/para itself is bad enough! But this? This is ridiculous and I know I will not remember when/if I'm ever speaking to an actual person (and honestly I doubt they'll care).

I onnly tried Duolingo once, for a new language, and decided very quickly it was useless for actually learning new things. Probably not for everyone, but definitely for me! So seeing you say something similar is oddly affirming? LOL.

I started learning Swedish on Duolingo a while ago (before I got into Guardian), but I ended up paying a three-month subscription to Babbel instead, because I found it was better structured and got me farther faster than Duolingo.

Ah, see those are the same ones I have. :) Although I am not as far as that last one yet.

cyberbrain is talking to me about the show, too, and carefully not spoiling me. :D I don't want him to cheat, either. /o\ (I didn't read her answer, I need to get there by myself.)

Hm! I wish they had at least a week-long trial thing. I clicked around (even put in my email, etc.) but didn't see anything. Let me know if there is one, though?
