People talking end of year writing accomplishments made me look up my own AO3 stats and if I can publish 3k more words before December 31, I'll hit a quarter of a million words for 2020. That's actually looking pretty likely thanks to a couple sprints with naye yesterday. Update: Sent to beta!

Back in March I challenged myself to post at least one thing a month on AO3 this year. Obviously that was made easier by publishing two long fics in serial form but it still feels really good to have managed it. Even if I don't get this shortfic up before the end of December, I'll have made that goal. I might not be able to do much in These Trying Times but BY GOD I can give the Guardian fandom some decent porn.

And occasionally some music suggestions! Whooo buddy, isn't this a perfect one for the Shen Wei playlist (on Spotify, too).

Beets and Writing

I read from the comments on your Thursday dump that you're not a beet fan (neither am I). The only way I've found to make them yummy is to peel, cube, roast at around 375F with oil (olive is good) using a seasoning mix from the wonderful Penzey's Spice Company called "Tsardust Memories". It transforms them into something that even my picky family will nom until there's none left. And if you're not already familiar with Penzey's I encourage you to check them out.

As for writing, congratulations! I'm quietly picking away at a novel-length dS AU fic. I've been at it nearly a year, but with all the *waves hands at everything* I don't have a lot of time or spoons for writing. Hopefully I'll get there eventually. Longfic is hard hard for me, so I am in awe of people who can churn out the novels. My journalism background trained me to write "short and punchy" -- learning to write longform and do it well is (one of) my personal Everest.

I've actually tried that exact method for beets (even the Tsardust Memories, which, yes, Penzeys is THE BEST) and nope. So far the only way I like them is canned, which is ridiculous, but I chop them up and toss with a cooked-down balsamic vinegar glaze. It's ... fine? but certainly not something I make more than a couple times a year.

Love how much crossover there is between due South and Guardian. Go you, tackling something outside your comfort zone!

Thank you for letting me know you liked the song! People rarely comment when I post song and playlist links, so I'm not sure if people just don't like my music tastes (which--fine, obviously! 😄) or if most of the people who read me aren't as into character-related songs as I am.

I don't usually take the time to listen to music, but today I did. :D

I like singer-songwriter type things, and this fits 100%.

I also like to listen to the radio alarm in the mornings and check the music for how well it would fit Weilan (or more broadly, my current obsession).

But my lyrics comprehension isn't perfect, and I think most of them only fit Weilan "a little", so I never actually publish them anywhere, but there is that need to collect. :D

I actually haven't found more than three or four this year, but if you want to take a look, I can send you a link.
