Thursday

For the first time in my life, I want a tree--solely so I can put a Guardian lantern at the top.

I bought soba noodles at the store and would like a recommended recipe for them. Any suggestions? All the ones I can find are written by blonde white women or major (western) food sites. Help. ETA: Warm noodle recipes if possible! or I can just hold onto these until summer and eat them cold, which looks to be a much simpler and more common thing but I was really hoping for some variety in my current parade of rice noodles...

Check out this gorgeous poetry from [personal profile] shanmonster.
We are in the time of two moons, when Sister Sun’s brother
Seeks us out in lieu of his sister.
She is gone, not to be seen for a while, but that doesn’t mean we live in darkness.
The radiance of the dark dances electric green across the sky.

Ages ago I promised someone I'd send the gifset I saw on Tumblr that shows Lan Xichen stroking Meng Yao's hand with his ring (weakest) finger and Meng Yao responding to the gesture by stroking with his index (strongest) finger. The gifset has yet to cross my dash again, but I'm catching up on this excellent watch thread and LXC's side of this is screencapped in the third image here. I don't remember to whom I actually promised this, but I hope you see it, whoever you were!

I'm slowly making my way through correspondence catch-up (stupid weak hands), and I'm nearly out of postcards that aren't fandom-adjacent (and precious few of those). If anyone's dying to send me a gift, a package of fun postcards would be great. DM or email me if you need my address.

Wrist's still a little fucked up but I was not doing well staying away from typing for that long. *emoji shrug* So Tuesday I answered a bunch of emails, AO3 comments, and wrote nearly 800 words on the Hellbent prequel. I felt so much better mentally.

I don't think I ever got around to saying the Hellbent prequel title. If anyone cares 😄 it's Good Intentions. Fun, huh? Not ominous in the slightest. Just a fun teen summer camp romp! Promise! (holds three fingers in WWX salute)

Oh, and in completely expected but still sad news, the local on-site herbalism apprenticeship program I was admitted to for this year (that obviously got canceled) is now officially canceled for 2021. Gotta say, from the sound of her email, 2022 is looking unlikely. The woman who teaches is is already in her 80s, and is (as common for people in these sorts of fields) extremely distrustful of modern medicine. She notes, near the end of the message: If the year 2022 is also problematic, I will put away my herbal notebooks and move on to a different chapter of my life. I was so looking forward to meeting all of you but it might turn out that I'll miss the opportunity.

Granted, I'm not an optimist, but I think it's hard to argue that sounds promising. And I know, I KNOW I probably wouldn't be able to do it next year anyway because dogs willing I'll have a job and there's absolutely no way I'll be able to commit the entirety of every single Saturday for nine months while I'm working full time. I can't say I was counting on taking it, but having it solidly canceled is just... ugh. A reminder of how very different things are from what I hoped/imagined for myself as recently as eighteen months ago. Like...couldn't I have scheduled my life falling apart for a time where we weren't going through a global catastrophe? COME ON, SELF. Jesus! Super inconsiderate.

This week's dump on cm.net.

Oh, and I still need to write about the mice that decided to take up residency in the wall behind my microwave. Good times at Chez Manka, y'all! Happy Christmas Eve!

Noodles and beautiful poetry and chattiness! Happy Christmas Eve!! (Sorry about the exclamation points. I've had prosecco.)

MICE-CAPADES. Noooooo. That's honestly one of the main reasons I wanna leave my current apartment! The cat doesn't even kill them; he catches them and brings them to me ALIVE. And then I scream. Forever.
