I was excited about the new packaging by my usual brand of coconut milk. But when I put it in yesterday's morning's tea, it looked a little thin. I thought maybe I'd just made the tea stronger than usual. When I made my Evening Comfort Drink though (a bit of honey, vanilla extract, hot water, and enough coconut milk to make it milky), I was like "oh, no, this is way thinner." I looked at the nutritional information, and y'all. The new package is nearly twice the volume and has three servings as opposed to five servings in the can. And the can's servings are more calories. Sure, the new packaging label proclaims "2 simple ingredients, water + coconut" but I looked at the official nutritional information, and indeed, water is the first ingredient.

I understand the packaging is probably more expensive, but just charge more? Also, this stuff would be much to thin to cook with, and people (both current and possible new customers) are going to be disappointed if they ruin dinner with this stuff.

Ugh, capitalism.

I'm packing the rest of my stuff from McKitterick's today. Of course last night was one of those nights  I woke at 2am and never fell back asleep so this is gonna be great! I'm so tired I'm dizzy and very glad I have a local friend helping me. See y'all when I'm back home. *salutes*

For me the worst New Design one is

exact same price, exact same amount of product, but NOW CONTAINING BRAND NEW INGREDIENT THAT I AM ALLERGIC TO OR INTOLERANT OF.

eg Fragrance; Stevia; Xylitol; Cinnamon...

I actually wrote to the last company that changed their recipe to include an allergen - they were quite a small grassroots company so I thought maybe they might care -
they didn't care.

Ecostore decided that their many-years-old-product of fragrance-free, colourant-free
Ultra Sensitive Hand Wash
would be improved by suddenly adding
harakeke (New Zealand flax)

it turns out I have a violent allergic reaction to harakeke

I thought they might care because it was a product specially marketed at people with ultra sensitive skin[1]... nope! :(

Years back, this one company decided to suddenly add milk protein to their Karelian pies (a traditional Finnish pastry of rice porridge inside a rye crust, a pretty much everyday snack around here). They were the ONLY company in Finland who produced the milk-free version, suitable not only for people with milk allergies but also for vegans. The backslash was pretty heavy and they ended up dropping the milk protein pretty damn fast.

It doesn't say "beverage" on the label, and it was shelved next to the regular cooking stuff, so I don't even know. Yikes, indeed.

Your Evening Comfort Drink(TM) sounds yummy. I love all the tisanes I have, but this could be a nice addition to the rotation.

It's a very nice, cozy drink! I do something similar with molasses, too. Skip the vanilla though.

There were not many surprises although holy wow there was more stuff over there than I'd remembered. Really hope it all fits in the little storage unit I got.

There are a few things I wish I'd done differently/more carefully but about halfway through I was already dragging. It's done, at least, and if it takes me a while to find stuff once it's moved into storage, oh well!

Yes! I usually make it with actual proper coconut milk. I find it very comforting and it feels indulgent, especially on chilly evenings.
