Dancing 2-nite

Last minute reminder--Bellydancing at the Aladdin tonight.

The costume looks fab. There was a small problem with the bra that was easily fixed. Everything else fits fine. The only unpleasant discovery I had was when I realized that the wonderful braids that hang from the headpiece cover the gorgeously centered paisley on the back of the vest. Grump. I haven't yet decided if I will go all-out-pirate and wear my old Renfest boots, or if I'll stick with the old standby ballet flats. The pants are so fabulously fluffy and I hate to hide the bottom poof in a boot, but the boots look so right with the rest of the costume. I'm sure it'll be a last-minute decision.

Getting ready should go much quicker since I'm forgoing the bindis and the facial tattoos. If I decide to draw one, it'll just be the chin one. Mostly I'm going to concentrate on that smeary, smoky look around the eyes.

OK, so now that the costume is done, does that mean I have to dance? Can't I just stand around and look cool?

Wearing a new costume *is* fun, but it's also a bit nervewracking sometimes. Even having run through basic stuff in practice with no mishaps, there's always the chance that something will happen. A toe will get caught in extra-full pants, or the vest armholes aren't *quite* as large as your other vests and r-i-p!, etc. And then of course there's the fact that I've never been totally confident of my dance skills.

But all that's just fluff. I will certainly dance, and I hope to see you there!

I have always thought your skills as a dancer have been of the highest quality. You are a joy to watch, between your look (which is quite spiffy and exotic) and the specific manner in which you dance.

Believe me, in 23 years at the faire, I have seen a number of bellydancers. Very few I considered good.

You definitely fall in the good category...very good.

I'm probably going to have Dean snap a couple for LJ posting before we leave the house, but feel free to bring your camera to the gig. I'm more than happy to pose for pics, but be warned, action dance shots are nearly impossible. They just wind up looking weird and awkward.

Can do, I will try to remember to throw the camera in my bag before heading over. I imagine trying to photograph dancers is about as hard as trying to photograph sparring classes, which I have tried to mixed results.

Ballet flats! It's easier to dance in 'em, I bet, and they won't ruin the Look.

Also, don't worry about the braids: A lot of the time, they'll be twirled up to pleasantly surprise your audience ;-)

Well, we did take photos and now our computer is dead. Fabu! So I'm waiting on a friend to send me copies of the photos she took last night.

I'm so unhappy to have missed this night, what with everyone there and all.
But, the show must go on, and last night was tech/dress rehearsal night, so I couldn't do both.

Hope to see the pics soon! I'm sure it went well, and that's a great compliment from RougeWench. I'd be tickled pink myself.
