Dude, lighten up

Tomorrow morning I leave for my California trip and I still haven't packed.

I didn't get my practice skirt done, so I'm going to have to lug the giant gabardine circle skirt and hope that the workshop areas are well air-conditioned. The thing flies like a champ on spins, but man is it heavy. Plus, I'm sure everyone else will be wearing those gorgeous 10-yard tiered skirts (what I was attempting to make), but I've always been a little out of sync with the fashion status quo. I did finish two choli tops and a pair of harem pants, though.

I don't remember many events where I wasn't sewing up until the last minute. Dance performances, plays, rockabilly weekenders, weddings, they are all united by the theme of Eleventh Hour Frantic Sewing Nights. It doesn't matter if the event is critical (Amy's bridesmaid dresses) or if it's just personal satisfaction (Must Have This Dress For Saturday Car Show!), I have a bad tendency to overextend myself when it comes to sewing for an event. And usually, it's silly and pointless.

So last night, I decided that while I could stay up until 11:00 to finish the skirt, I would rather stay up until 11:00 to spend some nice snuggle time with Dean.

This is a big step for me. I'm trying to loosen up. I'm trying to just go with the flow.

Rae and I are helping the TribalFest organizers clean up the community building on Sunday evening after it's all over. At this moment, I *do not know* where I will be spending Sunday night. With Rae and her friend? At the hotel? Will Barbe pick me up and take me back to Oakland? It's up in the air. I've convinced myself that no matter what happens, I will not be spending the night in a cardboard box under a bridge. And this makes me somewhat less panicky. But it's hard.

OK, so I'm not packed, I'm going to a movie tonight instead of preparing for the trip, and I don't know where I'm spending the night on Sunday. At this point, I'm also not positive if we are being picked up at the airport, or if we are renting a car.

This is so different from my usual way of doing things that I can't even see it from here. It's a little nerve-wracking. But I have to admit, getting that skirt done doesn't really seem like such a big deal this morning.

Poor girl! You will have a fabulous time, nothing horrible will happen because you didn't reserve a car, supposing you need one, and Sunday night will work out okay.

Can't wait to hear about the trip.
