Russian Tea Cakes

For a couple people who requested this:

Russian Tea Cakes (from Betty Crocker's Cooky Book, 1963)
1 c butter
1/2 c sifted confectioner's sugar
1 t vanilla
2 1/4 c flour
1/4 t salt
3/4 c finely chopped nuts

Mix butter, sugar, and vanilla thoroughly. Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting. Stir flour and salt together; blend in. Mix in nuts. Chill dough.

Heat oven to 400F (mod. hot). Roll dough in 1" balls. Place on ungreased baking sheet (Cookies do not spread). Bake 10 to 12 min., or until set but not brown. While still warm, roll in confectioner's sugar. Cool. Roll in sugar again. Makes about 4 doz. 1" cookies.

Note: Do not use Gold Medal Self-Rising Flour in this recipe.

Okay, that works for me. I'm off to the grocery store now ;-)

I can make them this weekend if you like. They're horribly addictive. And wonderful with tea.

You need not ask twice. I think Kohl's, then the kitchen store, then the grocery store, then grading-sewing-wrapping. Oh yeah. We are the wild-n-crazy three, are we not? All shall observe our domesticity and despair!

[The last was for [livejournal.com profile] professormass, who recently gave me the good hatin'.]

Need I point out that paraphrasing Ozymandias is not a good omen for your relationship?

"Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of those colossal plates, boundless and bare,
The lone and level crumbs stretch far away."

Anything with a cup of butter has to be tasty. :)

These are horrible. Russian Tea Cakes make me the worst person in the world. When I was a kid, I'd literally eat them until I was physically ill and go back for more. They're crack with a touch of rum flavoring.

Must... make... tea cakes...

Woman! You're to blame for my upcoming upset stomach! You're to blame!

These are really, really good, and really, really messy.

(Well, if you are like me and often feel like you need a bib when you eat.)

Yum, sounds so tempting!

They're not REALLY Russian tea cakes unless you drink vodka while making them, though.
;-)
(Yes, I know vodka is a Polish invention, but still...)

Ah, sounds like my mum's recipe for tequila cookies!

Mmmmm Yum! My mom used to make these, or some Hungarian variant.
