A fortnight late and much more than $14 short
Let it be known: Catching up is hard.
New Orleans is a wonderful, beautiful, magical place. I love it. I'm ready to pack up and move there. Like, tomorrow. Hell, I'm moving this weekend anyway, so why not? The people are amazingly friendly, the food is excellent, and my entire experience of the city was nothing short of charming. There are a few tricks to getting around, however, and the number one thing to remember is Never Go To A Restaurant When You're Hungry. Go when you think you might be hungry in the next thirty minutes or so. Friendly as they are, waitstaff (at least in the French Quarter) are not what I would call speedy.
We took the Eating and Kissing Tour of New Orleans and the photos will show that. We're working on getting them photoshopped and organized, but there's over 500 pictures on the memory card, so be patient. In the meantime:
Pierre Maspero's restaurant rocks all the way from their Blackened Catfish to the Bread Pudding.
Southern Candymakers has the best Pralines.
Nobody makes soup like La Madeleine (104% of your daily saturated fat in just one bowl!). Foggy nights in Jackson Square are teh sexxay.
The Velvet Dog on St. Peter Street is the Best Dive Bar Ever.
People on balconies will throw beads to girls who are kissing on the street without said girls even having to pretend to show their tits.
You cannot take a bad photo of the city's architecture.
You will always be guaranteed a good Bloody Mary, no matter where you order it.
St. Louis Cemetary #1 was incredible. It's so tiny. And everywhere you turn, there's something beautiful, sad, or both.
The Garden District was gorgeous, but I preferred the dingy, busy atmosphere of the French Quarter.
There was a huge, three level, corner storefront building for sale about two blocks from our hotel and four blocks from the French Quarter. If I win a 20+ Million Powerball in the next month, I'll be purchasing that building and setting up shop. Just so ya'll know.
And, finally, nothing to do with vacation, but I had to include this. It's painfully true and the photo is priceless:

Hey, CR, did you guys visit any of the truly terrible psychics in Jackson Square? I did so during my last visit, and spent most of the evening laughing my ass off about how utterly wretched they were.
