Narrowing it down to five was wow, tough. Such a joy to have a reason to scroll through so many gorgeous images. To help myself pick only five, I'm including only stills, no gifs of time lapse photos.

Bonus: I'm including this one in a link because it might trigger body horror in some folks. I don't think any of them are especially great photos, aesthetics-wise, but oh the shapes! One of the things I love about fungi is how innately horrifying they are. That porcelain-like hand!

These are glorious!! My sibling-in-law is a big fan of fungi TikTok where you are encouraged to do things like poke the fungus or make it wiggle so you can see the texture and figure out where it is in its lifestage and never in my life have I been more tempted to join TikTok.

That first one looks like scales on a dragon's neck, and the second is straight-up terrifying! I would love to go mushroom hunting someday but also, NO. Scary forests, dark and deep!

That is definitely more practical than worrying about the fae. I'll still worry more about them, and finding a dead body, than anything else.
