Fantastic news!!!!

Aaaaaaaahhhhh--woooooohoooo! We just got some fabulous news here at work! I don't know that I'm at liberty to spread the word yet (I should wait for it to get distributed to the department first), but wow wow wow. This is a super big deal that our department's been working on for a couple years now and the Regents finally approved it. Rock on!!!!

EDIT: I just got the OK to tell the general public: The thing that the Regents approved was our creative writing MFA program. It looks like we might be able to accept people into the MFA program starting Fall of 2006. Very, very cool, folks. Very cool.

Congrats!

(What's an MFA program?)

Oh, ye of little acronym-knowledge! It's Master of Fine Arts (in creative writing, particularly).

I'm doin' it! Means I'll finally get the oh-so-important "terminal degree" so many Department folks want to see in their teaching staff.

Dood...I thought you already had, like, your doctorate and stuff!
:P

Feh. I have an MA in writing and a RWPhD (that's real-world phd) in technical communications. Jim Gunn had to talk me into the MA.

That IS fantastic :)

Very exciting stuff for one and all.

what's the diff between an MA in creative writing and an MFA?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-04-22 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
An MFA, like a PhD is a terminal degree. It's as far as you can go (academically) in a given field of study. That means you've eligible for a tenure-track position at a four-year university. An MA is not a terminal degree.

ahhh. thanks!

Okay, where was this ten years ago when I needed it? Congrats on getting it here!

That was my thought 10 years ago, too, but now I'll be able to upgrade in a year or so!
