I don't know half these songs. Heck, I don't even know some of the group/artist names! I think this is indicative of the fact that I didn't listen to a lot of radio. Maybe that's why I didn't listen to a lot of radio.

Also in music news: I found my missing CDs! Hurrah. So [livejournal.com profile] stuology, you're off the hook on burning me Sugar Blue. Thanks a million for the offer, though.

In non music news: Has anyone else heard been subjected to the "Take Another Little Piece of My Heart" cover by Faith Hill? There are no words to adequately describe the complete lack of soul present in this woman. I am amazed at how thorougly and effectively she stripped all sorrow, anger, angst, and pain from one of the most wrenching heart-break songs on the planet and turned it into a voiceless, monotonous, and uninspired piece of pablum. I suppose that in itself is some sort a talent. A sick, sad, and disgusting talent, but a talent nonetheless.

Got a shit ton of sewing done this weekend, thanks to my deux ex machina. So now the list reads:
  • Three pairs of bloomers--all but elastic in the waist
  • Three chemises--all but casing at the wrist
  • Three bodices--all but peplums
  • Clean shoes

I hope to get the above wrapped up this week so I can make it out for Media Party on Friday. The nailbeds of my thumbs and index fingers are so incredibly sore from setting grommets. Ow ow ow ow ow. And that's even with using a grommet setter. But two bodices, each with approximately 40 grommets equals a fuckload of grommets. So yeah, ow.

And I forgot to mention, I just sold The Jack Sparrow Costume. Woot! I'm trying to pare down some of my costume pieces that don't fit anymore. If you're in the market for a tassel belt (they make excellent wall art even if you don't dance), let me know.

    Blasted grommets!

I took a look at the list for 1990. I didn't recognise more than half of them. :O

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, but #3 on 1990's list makes up for a lot.

I couldn't agree more. I caught it flipping through channels on Sirius and I thought it surely must be some sort of comedic parady or joke or something until I clicked through to find who was singing it. It was ghastly.

I mean, it's just this side of *bouncy* for godssake. I didn't think it could get much worse than Jessica Simpson's "Take My Breath Away" but it does. Oh yes, it does.

    [identity profile] nataliesee.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
When you get to the peplums on your bodices, would you mind an observer if you are in a place to accomodate that? If not, don't worry about it, but if its convenient for me to pop over and watch, I'd love to.

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm gonna try to do at least one tonight. If I don't do it tonight I won't have time until Friday morning and that's cutting it really close. I have a haircut at 6:00 but will be home a bit after 7:00. Shall I call you when I'm home?

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Crap. Just thought of something. Do you have two pieces of 10" boning I can steal until my order comes in? I just realized I can't close up the bottoms of my bodices until all the boning is in and I'm missing the two front diagonals...

    Rats rats rats.

    [identity profile] nataliesee.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll check when I get home and let you know.

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
    Thank you!!!

Woot. I've got the boning from [livejournal.com profile] solan_t. I'll call you when I get back from my haircut. See you soon.

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
    Flat. 1/2 inch. Thanks, sugar.

    [identity profile] solan-t.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe I may actually have that. Wait, I KNOW I have that, it's just sitting in a corest that may never get finished. How's best to get it to you? Email if you prefer. kgknorr at sunflower dot com.

Oh, and my home number is 842-9051

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Roxxor. I could come get it tonight before my haircut...when do you get home?

    [identity profile] solan-t.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
    Somewhere between 5:10 and 5:30.

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Peachy. I've got a quick errand to run and then I'll swing by your place around then. Thank you so so much!!!!

    Music = 1989

    [identity profile] the-themiscyran.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack. I just did mine. I knew there was a reason why I stopped listening to the radio so much in high school, and this shows it. New Block on the Kids and fuckin' Milli Vanilli each had four songs in the top 100 that year. Blech. 90% of my list would have to be strike-throughs.

But I will pick #62 "I Don't Want Your Love" by Duran Duran as the favorite. It was one of the years that I saw them in concert.

    Re: Music = 1989

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
As I noted in someone else's LJ, I typed in 1986 and 1987 and I knew (liked) a larger percentage of the songs from those years. I realized that I started listening to KJHK when I came to KU and so anything released to mainstream radio after August 1988 would've just passed me by.

Yeah, I still have yet to see D2 in concert. Rub some salt in that wound, why don'tcha? =)

    Re: Music = 1989

    [identity profile] the-themiscyran.livejournal.com 2005-08-22 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, most of the music I listened to at the time was in the form of live shows and KJHK late-night.

And I like salt. Rub. Rub rub. Hee! :)

And that is why I will NEVER own a Faith Hill album...

    [identity profile] hurricanedeck.livejournal.com 2005-08-23 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, she stripped everything Janis gave that song and threw it out like yesterday's garbage...

    Thank you very much

    [identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2005-08-23 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I had effectivly blocked that cover from my mind and now...shudder
