The bitchy Republican mom that I work with (you remember the one wanting to pull her little boys out of daycare, because of the "poor" coughpoorblackcough people?) said to me today, "Wow, I really don't think he's a good president. And, did you know he was on vacation?!"

Of course, after the brief shiny moment when the scales fell from her eyes, she then claimed a great worry in civil unrest because (and I quote), "black people down there just aren't as civilized as Northern Blacks!" Shoot me. Or, um, her.

Oh, and I think that all the displaced people should show up to share a cold one on Trent Lott's porch. Fuckers.

What astonishes me most are the people who believe he relates to the "common man" -- I can't remember a less empathatic president, nor one who is unsufficiently afraid of his citizens.

Kinda shines right through that "just downhome folks, good ol'Texans with a heart-of-gold" facade they've used so successfully, doesn't it? Rove and Co. are now working OVERTIME (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/05/national/nationalspecial/05bush.html)to clean up these little foibles now. But not working so much on disaster relief and emergency preparedness scenarios, apparently.
On the bright side of things, the Republicans up for midterm elections are pissing their pants right now.
