OK, ow. First weekend.

That was exhausting.

Opening weekend was...ok. I was really low energy, and as I mentioned to [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong and [livejournal.com profile] rougewench back in the Bitch Pit after front gate one morning I felt like my conciousness was holed up in the very back of my head. All interactions with people outside of my head had to come a long way through the brain, from cerebellum to frontal lobe. And considering the complete lack of pity comments and razor sharp wit, it must've been a pretty long haul.

I love the belt that [livejournal.com profile] byronsart made for me. God, it's just amazing. So sexy. Love it. Love love love. It's absolutely perfect for The Spanish.

Saturday day was hot. I can't rememeber much of anything in particular except for Chess Match which I thought went really well, and the Smoker, which didn't so much. It wasn't too awful (it would certainly get sucessively worse, IMO), but we were all nervous and uncomfortable. However, our guest singers (gaaah can't remember the woman's name and I never learned the man's) were fantastic and did a terrifically nasty song with pantomimed woman-on-top humping. Completely faboo. My friend Jemira's group (Quasi Ghawazee and the Fez) were real troopers and came in to dance on the nasty gravel for the last part of the show. It's good to see them perform. Jen's a fabulous dancer and I haven't had the pleasure of seeing her often enough in the past few years. And I got to zil with them. Yay!

However, doing Chess Match, then Smoker, then Pub Sing (which is always pointless and draining anyway) completely saps everything I've got for closing gate. Er, no offense to everyone involved in Pub Sing, now. But from a non-participating performer's view, it's a loss. We can't really interact with patrons or other performers because that would take away from what's happening on stage. So we just sorta...sit there until a song comes up where we can run to the front to be eye candy. Yawn.

I guess I should learn the words to One For The Road. That would help a little. But still. It's not terribly fun for the whores.

And then we got The Blow. No more afterpub. No cast party. What a lovely end to the first day.

OK so that's the bitching for Saturday. Sunday started out great with a fantastic game of balls that I eventually threw. Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong for calling the forfeit. I just couldn't handle it anymore. Too freaking hot. But until it got exhaustive (45 minute long game, folks, give me some credit for lasting that long), it was a hoot. Oh, and yum on the gazpacho soup from the soup kitchen. Excellent recipe. I should try to beg it from [livejournal.com profile] motherpockets. Chess Match was not nearly as good as Saturday's and let's not say much more about the Smoker other than: It's bad enough they nixed the turkey leg and subbed in cheap cheese and sausage slices. It's beyond bad when even that doesn't show up until ten minutes before the end of the event. Teh Suxx0r. Talk about some pissed off (not to mention already drunk) patrons. Ugh. At least closing gate wasn't a rehash of Saturday's forty five minutes of hell.

Dinner with a hella lotta people over at [livejournal.com profile] otterdancing and [livejournal.com profile] retdet's abode was lovely. Thanks to them for opening up their house. And [livejournal.com profile] starwyse, the noodles were excellent. mmmm. Unfortunately, I was too tired to even be bitchy. I just felt vaguely lumpish. Bah. As I sat there, not even feeling particularly decorative, I felt lucky to be surrounded by friendly, accepting, clever, and affectionate people who didn't mind (or probably even notice) that I was out of form. Thanks, all. And thank you to [livejournal.com profile] mesniu for the head rub.

Monday. The less said about Monday the better. I'll quickly note the bright spots.
  • I got to hold a kick-ass boa named Big Red while his owner ate a turkey leg. Very well-behaved snake and friendly owner. Happy Chernobyl.
  • I understand they're not everyone's cuppa, but The Limeybirds made me laugh so hard I cried at Pub Sing. I've heard that "Has Anybody Seen My Cock" song four times now and it isn't old yet.
  • Mixed Berry Soup from [livejournal.com profile] motherpockets.
  • None of the performers died during Chess Match (but I can't say the same about the audience--or even for sure if they were alive to begin with).
  • The whores got to play with with Malachi/Derrick/The Exterminator/Sheriff's Pet Dog for a long time and pretty much broke him. Great fun.
  • Closing gate didn't totally suck.
  • The girl who signs "One For The Road" has a new leather bodice that looks really hot on her. Hot. Teh Sexxay.

And then to top it off, last night I got up suddenly. I started to get out of bed and clocked myself on the edge of one of my bedposts. Right on the corner of a post. Bang. Hit myself so hard I stumbled into one of the curtains and got a bit trapped. Now I have a nice little cut with bruise and bump on my forehead above my left eyebrow. Very attractive. [livejournal.com profile] otterdancing and I now have coordinating head wounds. I really hope it's healed by Saturday or it's going to look like a customer got the better of me.

I want to go out to lunch.

Even low energy you're a joy to be around.

I missed the blow. WTF! No afterpub? No cast party? WTF! I guess I'll have to host one then :)

I should learn the words to One for the Road too. But I sure like learning one phrase and making it mine :)

Kudos to you for surviving the first weekend.

    oof!
I'm hoping you used up most of the rough takeoff on this first weekend.

If it does not heal that fast, well,
you can always play up the "Revenge of the Bed".

You are part of a great background image on my laptop now.
You look like you were having a piggyback blast. 8^)

Oh, I did forget to post about the wonderful fun by the Bird Stage with [livejournal.com profile] angel_in_purple and [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong. I think our best times are at the Bird Stage.

Note to friends: If you want to see Red's Girls, that's probably the best spot. After we have our post-parade lunch, we hang out there. Catch the Quasi Ghawazee show at 1:30 and then hang out with the whores a bit. We're both there at about the same time.

First of all, let me say that it's a nice surprise that you called me a woman. Most people refer to me as a girl, which is fine usually, just a nice oddity to have it otherwise.;) I assume that, for the first Smoker, you're referring to Chris (tall hairy guy) and me (Erin). No worries about not remembering my name. I don't remember your real one either.*chuckle* I'm so terrible w/names.

No worries about Pub Sing performers taking offense either, at least where this one is concerned. I'm up there and *I'm* getting bored.;)

I look forward to getting to know you better as the faire wears on. I hope that wound heals quickly.

Correct assumption. Yes! You two were great, and much appreciated by everyone.

I'm Lydia, btw, and looking forward to getting to know you, as well!

Belts and other goodies, oh my!

    [identity profile] byronsart.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Glad that the belt works for you so well. Next we move on to the oh so sexy gloves. I may pester you for a couple of measurements along the way.

Well, if nothing else, you know where to find me on weekends! =D

Seriously, though, that belt is the bomb. Love it.

I often feel ackward with street groups I know, others I can act like a normal patron and stand around and watch the street group, but with Red's girls and other groups I know that dosent' seem to work, so mostly I sit way off and watch from the distance. but i've never heard any interaction between the girls and I'm sure that is amusing

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It's odd to spend more than two or three minutes with us because there's just not really any extended conversation we can enjoy. You pretty much exchange a couple sexual innuendoes and leave. =D

    [identity profile] starstraf.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
but for street groups I don't knwo I can stand and "watch" so we miss out cause we can't "watch" you all.

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Stand and watch!!! Who's stopping you? Just let us know you're there to observe the carnage and not interact and we'll be happy to indulge your voyeurism.

cause sometimes I forget that you all are preformaing and just see you interacting with each other so don't want to interupt or evesdrop. Actually that is why I enjoy the balls game when we make it, cause it is easy to watch the interaction of the girls with each other and with the patrons

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. That makes sense.

We always play balls right after opening gate when it's not too godawful hot out yet. =)
