Back at my nice, relaxing job

Well, at least it's air-conditioned.

Not a bad weekend at faire, although I don't think any of the weekends last year had such sparse attendance. There were huge stretches on Saturday's parade route that had no patrons. It was strange. The patrons that were there didn't seem terribly bright. Nobody seemed to get the bandiage that the whores were throwing about, and they didn't get Chess Match at all. A strange, slow day. Had a wonderful time hanging out with some people later that evening, though.

Oh, and I got the best compliment from a patron. He said he'd lived in Spain for five years and my accent was incredible. In fact, when we started our conversation (at closing gate), we got about two sentences in and he asked "Are you from Spain? In real life?" He said I was thorougly convincing as a Castilian Spaniard, looks yes, but especially voice-wise. Rock.

Sunday morning I didn't feel so good and I had to sit out parade. I had a horribly scratchy throat, my stomach was assaulted by sharp, stabby pain, and it felt like I was coming down with a urinary tract infection. Right before heading up to Mother Pockets for some bread, I realized what it was: I now am officially allergic to melon. I noticed earlier this summer I had a scratchy throat and slight upset tummy after eating some cantaloupe. Well, apparently now I can't even eat food that has touched melon. It caused a bad histamine reaction from my throat all the way through my digestive tract, which would explain the burning throat, achey stomach, and itchy girl bits. By late afternoon, all the allergen was out of my system and I felt fine. There you go. Very sad. I love cantaloupe. =(

Had a rather odd experience at Mother Pockets. My throat was still a little sore and so I was trying not to talk much. I went up to the guy handing out bread, batted my lashes and pointed to the piece I wanted with raised eyebrows. I smiled and he didn't say anything, so I reached for it. He turned to the guy next to me and said "And she doesn't even ask at all, she just takes one," not in a very nice tone. I was a little taken aback, but thought he was just teasing so I whispered at him "I was asking with my eyes," and winked. He shot back at me "Well my ears can't hear your eyes." Um. OK. I think I might not go back for bread next week.

Adrian, on the other hand, is an absolute darling. I'd just like to say: What a peach. Go buy something from his shop (Brassworks).

I'm sure none of them read this journal, but a million thanks to the gypsies for sharing their food with the whores. That's really super sweet of them. (EDIT: If any gypsies are reading this, let me just say, this particular whore will either pay you much attention or leave you alone completely--your choice--for more of that baklava.)

After canon on Sunday night, I got to feed Paige!!! Woot! That was kick ass. I think next weekend I might bring my own apples to share. I've never fed an elephant before, and no fence between us, even. Amazing.

Tonight: Pizza with [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong and [livejournal.com profile] everflame, laundry, and damage control on The Yak.

I am really sorry that happened... I'm guessing I know who said it, and though I know he was kidding, he does come off as rather abrasive sometimes. I'll chat with him about it. Please don't avoid us. :)

Oh, I didn't mean to get someone in trouble. I was just...surprised that he seemed unwilling to play along. Maybe I should have mentioned the sore throat. I dunno.

Thanks for commenting, though!!! It reminded me to friend you. =)

That is totally my cantaloupe allergy.

WATCH OUT FOR: walnuts, latex, and codeine. They tend to run in packs.

[identity profile] bountifulpots.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
No, he's not in trouble, he just needs to remember that not everyone is used to his way of humor... No big deal, he's not in trouble. I just want to make the Soup Kitchen a good experience for everyone!

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, do you want to get the pizza for over here, and you can use the tub for the Yak?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm gonna try washing in the sink. I wanna spend this evening at home...my kitty was really needy and clingy all night and this morning. I feel like I should spend some time with her since I didn't see her much at all last week, much less over the weekend.

Latex: check

Walnuts: Noooooooooooooo!!!!! I love walnuts! *crosses fingers*

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
=) Fair enough.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome to the no-melon club! Really, I love watermelon and cantaloupe, but they aren't worth the wanting to pull my throat and ears out due to the itching. They definately aren't worth the trip to the emergency room when the esophagus goes into hard to breath spasms either.

The melonless world is tolerable, you just typically have to pass or pick through pre-made fruit salads since everybody else adores the melon.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack...

breathe

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I did pick through the fruit salad, but apparently I can't even have fruit-next-to-melon. It's been agreed that future fruit salads will have a special melon-free bowl made just for me.

I'm special!

I second what BP said!

SOOOOO sorry you had a bad experience at the soup kitchen!!!! We want everyone to feel welcome and nurtured!!! That's why we are there--for you! Yeah, Duane does tend to have a cynical, sarcastic sense of humor, and probably did want to play, but in his own way, and the two styles just didn't work together well. Please don't avoid us! We love the whores, and hope you will visit us often! Also, the whores are invited into the soup kitchen! (We have a rule that only Mother Pockets can invite people in, to keep the traffic down, but you all are invited in to sit in the shade, relax, or whatever you need (we have cold water, ice, and our very own privy out back!)

[identity profile] bountifulpots.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Were you okay after the baklava? That, most likely, had walnuts...

[identity profile] thefox-rb.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
My kitties were the exact same way last night/this morning...especially Rowena, my black kitty. Mills, my little tom-boy girl, is like, "HeymomshomewecanplaynowWEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" and Rowena is much more mellow, but still very clingy. I thought about them alot yesterday out at Faire...

I do love my wee beasties. :0)

Me, too!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack!!!! OK, I'd forgotten that [livejournal.com profile] bountifulpots read my LJ (brain like a sieve, I'm telling you), and I didn't know at all that you read me! Sheesh.

Please please please don't think I was trying to rat on him or something. It was just a vent. Man, now I feel bad. It wasn't a *bad* experience. It was more like a "well I know where that particular boundry is now" experience...

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah...I was ok. But I wonder how long that'll last. =(

[identity profile] bountifulpots.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if it gets to that point, I will be happy to make you baklava with no walnuts... Not the same, I know, but I'd try to make it tasty!

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. You'd think we'd abandoned them all weekend or something.

Oh, wait...

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, I beg to differ with you. As far as I'm concerned he's in trouble with me. And you are more than welcome to tell him that for me.

No one gets to be a dick to one of my women without getting to answer for it...particularly when said same individual believes he can play with impunity.

We may be whores, but we are also performers who deserve the same respect as he would give any other performer, or more directly demand it for himself.

I would strongly suggest to you to not attempt to try it in the sink. Long wigs wash so much more effectively when they can be laid down. However, I would suggest to you also that the wig will dry quickly as a synthetic, so you would not really have to wash it before Wednesday to still have time to rehab it by Friday night.

DON'T FEEL BAD! Okay, feel how ever you want, but no need to worry about what you said. He's not in trouble at all, and we know how things can happen sometimes. We just want to do what we can to make it pleasant for everyone. And please don't censor yourself for me. I would hate to miss out on something because you were afraid of someone getting in trouble. Vent away!

[identity profile] motherpockets.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Please don't think of it as ratting--I don't, and he isn't "in trouble" but see, the sign says "Mother Pockets' Soup Kitchen," and I'm Mother Pockets, so the buck stops with me! We truly want everyone to feel loved, nurtured, and taken care of there. While you guys are all there for the patrons, we are there for you! You are our sole purpose for being there! We don't always achieve the nurturing and loving part; last year I made a little kid cry because I was so mean to him! But when we do miss the mark, I need to know it, so we can remind ourselves. So thank you for the reminder! Duane was no doubt trying to play in his own way, but apparently the two styles didn't mesh well. We will do better!

No feeling bad. If you ever have any problem with any performer or other party at the faire, I want to hear about it. You must always remember that people will make stupid choices based upon the character type we choose to play. It is up to us to educate them if they make a poor choice.

[livejournal.com profile] duanekc fucking well knows better.

[livejournal.com profile] motherpockets, trust that we will return, trust also that [livejournal.com profile] duanekc will be given the "opportunity" to apologize for his choice of interaction, both directly to me, and to Mistress Azucena. I do not want him believing that rudeness of such a nature is appropriate toward one of my women, even if such was unintended thoughtlessness on his part.
