[livejournal.com profile] shrijani links to a wonderful line-by-line commentary of Hollaback Girl. I admit I've never heard this song, but the analysis is wonderful, even for a blissfully unaware person such as myself.

This was one of the best Middle Eastern Weekend experiences I think I've had. Although I was really shaky on the few choreographed pieces I did, I had a really good time. I didn't bother trying to herd the other dancers. I just let myself float along and have a pleasant weekend. I am more than a bit peeved that not a single other Lawrence troupe girl showed for closing gate on Sunday (gonna bring that up in class) but oh well. [livejournal.com profile] skyflame already has some photos up from this weekend if you care to check them out. Photos of this weekend start on row five.

I did my best weather magic to ward off rain and it worked pretty well except for a brief shower on Saturday afternoon. My magic? Don't wear sunscreen. Why was the weather on Sunday sunnier? I even went so far as to leave my parasol at home that day, which I didn't do on Saturday. So you all have me to thank for the averted thunderstorms. Sorry it was a little warmer than it should be, but if I'm having to dance I'd rather it be a bit too warm than a bit too wet.

My poor knees are pretty banged up from the floorwork. I love doing the hard drop down with the sword on my head. It's so dramatic and, honestly, very easy for me. But I know one day I'm going to do it and I'll know "well that was the last time for that." Also, by the end of the day, I could barely get up from the floorwork without pushing with my hands. Ooof, my quads get fatigued.

From [livejournal.com profile] emeder, this is just perfect.

OK, I had more to say, but I'm not interested in typing anymore.

Hollaback Girl

Having been subjected to top 40 radio by my 19 year old coworkers, I would definitely warn you away from actually listening to "Hollaback Girl." The analysis is funny as hell but the song itself is wretched and vile.

I could swear that I know that Lady Anne in the pictures. I'm having Camarilla flashbacks on it, but I can't for the life of me besure of it.

I'm not sure why he called her "Lady Anne." ...Oh, wait, yes, that was an old old character of hers in years of RenFest past. I don't think she ever played any RPGs, but she is a longtime Larryville townie. You probably remember her from seeing her around downtown.

that analysis is hysterical! I've heard that song and admit that it's beat is damn catchy, but I've puzzled and puzzled over 'hollaback'... is she really saying 'hollow back' and if so, what would that mean? No backbone?
ack. But ah, to find out that it means she doesn't "holla back" now THAT makes more sense. I figured it had something to do with getting into screaming matches in bars and she won't participate. heh.

Some nice pics there... avoiding the "great pose, lousy face" vs "face is lovely, but what the hell was I doing" dilemma.

I only wish someone had gotten pics of my muffin-head falls.

I'm working very hard to perfect a "serene and smiling" expression when I do floor work.

She told me that was her name for the weekend, so I went with it. :)

That's fine. As you can see from the above comment, I remembered why she used that.

Totally off the subject--were you at India Palace for lunch?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Um...yes! I was! I found $20 and had to spend it! LOL!

That was me with Julie! I have met you before through another friend, Kellie Harmon, many years ago.

Well crap! LOL! And yes, I'm friends with Kellie, so we might have met before. The Chicken Tikka Masala was perfect today, I thought. =D

Thank you!
