Friday Five, and some content

1. What vehicle do you drive?
A 1991 Honda CRX with a bad purple paint job.

2. How long have you had it?
About four years(?)

3. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle?
The gas mileage and the new CD player that plays MP3s.

4. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle?
Sometimes it doesn't want to go into reverse and I have to do this silly song and dance with the shifter before it finally goes in.

5. If money were no object, what vehicle would you be driving right now?
A repainted (red) 1991 Honda CRX with little fabricated devil horns on the roof and a license plate that read "dvldoll." Seriously, I love my car and other than a few modifications, I wouldn't mind driving it for another 20 years.

In other news, had a great time dancing last night. I think I'm getting better, more up to the level I was when I stepped out of the scene three years ago. My costume absolutely rocked, and I hope to get photos up soon. roya_spirit called me about 5:30 and our conversation inspired me to pull together a rather Halloween-y costume. Much fishnet was involved.

Roya looked absolutely stunning. I swear she gets more beautiful as time goes by. Seriously, she's one of those women that, if it continues, will look more stunning at 70 than any of us did at 17.

It's so fun to see new dancers start to perform. Alex got out and danced for the second time ever last night and she looked so much better than her first night. Her arms are a little more confident and she didn't look quite so much the "scared rabbit" (in Roya's words). Trenae, after only 4 years of bellydance, is already as good a dancer as I am (IMO). She just needs to work on her presence and control over the drummers.

I got several compliments on my dancing, and while I admit to being an okay dancer, I really do believe that most of what people see as good dancing is actually a good command over the audience. I know how to play them. I think a lot of this is due to my involvement in an improv group when I was in high school, and some of it is due to my repressed tendencies to be an extrovert. I would like to be a better dancer, but repeat comments in entry for August 29 regarding need to practice more.

I am so much looking forward to some quiet time this weekend. I really need it.

Oh, you silly -- you're "an okay dancer" like Johnny Depp is "an okay actor." Remember, part of any performance art is your presence -- imagine Depp without that (if you can). That newish dancer had some excellent technique, but what's belly-dance all about? Technique? I think not! And your technique is fine, too, CR.

Best,
Chris

Awww. Thanks!

By the way, maybe you should tell Dean that your dream car isn't the Buick but the Honda, so's he restores it first! Kij once told me her dream car was a '64 Lincoln, but after a while she realized it was a modern, reliable car AND a '64 Lincoln that made her feel cool. Thus the 2002 Focus.

In terms of time-to-completion, the CRX would be a much quicker project. And you could do the horns yourself >g<

Let's see if he has time to read LJ today to get your suggestion. =)

Keep in mind that the CRX is her favorite car because Chernobylred hasn't *seen* the Buick yet. She can't quite picture how glorious it will be!

Actually, I've always known how great her affection for her CRX is. But I really have trouble getting excited about working on modern cars. They're just horribly boring, in my opinion. And if I'm not really interested in working on it, chances are good I'd get halfway through, get discouraged/bored, and drop it for a more exciting project. *Then* how would she feel about her CRX? ;)

The question should be "how would I feel about *you*?"

I would so love to see you dance one day! I've seen pictures, but not enough...

That would be complete only if you also had a Ford Expedition with the license plate "RDSKUL" on the back.

"Here's your coffee, Radiskull!"
"Is it . . . BOILING?"
"Just the way you like it!"

Oh wow! You are only the fourth person I've known (excluding myself) to know about Devildoll and Radiskull!!!

Ah, you talk about some great Flash comics. Sadly, good Flash 'toons seem to have gone the way of 1999. Tsk, tsk.

Thank you so much dearest one. I swear that all my girlfriends get more supportive and beautiful as time goes by also.

And I was thrilled to see you pull together such a cool costume on spontaneity's sake. You did fabulous, your make-up was awesome and we rocked the house!

And you know why I'm in such a glorious space right now *wink*.
Being told how beautiful one is by the right people and at the right times is exhilarating!

Thanks! Yeah, we looked great. We should have done a little tribal stuff, even for just a couple minutes. I didn't even think about that...DUH!

Pretty but not very bright sometimes. =b

Here's (http://hepcats.net/~chernobylred/dance/halloween/) the only pic D got. Hopefully more will be coming from others who were there.

A great pic!!! The bra/belt combo look super=I know you made them!!! Did you do the fishnet midriff cover too???? I use to have a pattern for that from Atira.....hmmmm...where IS that pattern. If only there were a "middle eastern dance pattern lending library" LOL.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2003-10-05 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

The bra I made on Thursday...the belt is over 8 years old. =) It's the first one I ever made, and probably my favorite.

The bodystocking is just something I picked up on a halloween clearance table last year. The gauntlets I made by cutting off the legs of a pair of fishnets, cutting finger and thumb holes, and then sewing the two legs together in back so they didn't slide down.
