Is it just me? It's just me, isn't it? I knew it.

Does anyone else care who's gonna be the next James Bond? My dream James Bond is not returning, so...eh. I don't really care anymore. OK, if it was Ewan McGregor I might care 'cos DAMN. But it isn't, so eh.

I'm so so so ready for two weeks (and weekends) of complete sloth. I desperately need to hermit. Please, if you email, phone, or otherwise contact me about a group gathering before November 1, please don't take offense if I say "no" or don't return your message. I want hours lolling about on my couch, unwashed, wearing flannel PJs and not smiling or flirting with a single damn soul.

After my two weeks, however, I look forward to a good night of public drunkenness and boogey-down dancing.

Speaking of dancing, I finally made the decision to drop out of Troupe Raghsidad. I'll still take classes and go to workshops. I'll still dance at Aladdin Café. I'll still help with costumes for the summer show and Ren Fest. If Jo doesn't want me to do solos for the summer show and Ren Fest, I'll just play with the musicians. But for a year now I've been sort of half-assing my way along with the troupe, bowing out of performances and becoming less and less involved. I feel I don't have the physical or emotional energy that being in a troupe requires and I do not like giving the impression that it's ok to not give it all I've got just because I'm one of the most experienced dancers. I was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with that, so I told Jo yesterday that I was removing myself from the ranks of her troupe. A tough decision, but she was cool about it. I'm getting burned out with dance (again) and I don't want that. So. No more troupe for me. It's definitely the best decision for me.

yeah, he was my dream James Bond, too. And, no, I just can't get excited about who's next, either.

Here's what you do. You get rid of everyone associated with the James Bond projects, ever. Then you start afresh, using the books and adhering to them slavishly, filming in black and white for at least the first three novels. You show James Bond at his hard-edged, hard-drinking, depressed best, in his proper fucking historical milieu, and you cast an unknown. For the record, Ian Fleming said that James Bond would look something like Hoagy Carmichael. http://www.hoagy.com/bio_short.htm

Not that I have strong feelings about this as a kid who grew up reading the novels or anything.

I can so see that guy as the James Bond you described!

Fade in, cuban music, something by Beny More, and pan up past the glass of bourbon and the cigarette, to the melancholy, somewhat cruel face of our Protagonist, for I cannot say Hero.

Oh, yeah. Mmm-hmmm.

The bad part of this reminds me of what happened to "The Avengers" when it went to the big screen. Your suggestion reminds me of how fine "Sin City" turned out when the people behind the film project actually tried to caputre the look and feel of the comic.

Ian Fleming was a racist, and reactionary, and blah-de-blah, but he did write a freaking good thriller. This franchise has sucked since the 70's. Sorry, the 60's, because they refused to pay attention to the, um, BOOKS that were written about this.

This is why I thought Clive Owen would be good for the next go-round. Making him younger is such a bad mistake. He was already in his thirties in Casino Royale. I love your idea. Of course, I grew up reading the novels as well, so that may have something to do with it...

Amen.

I care. James Bond is a great character, if unreaslistic, and it is very important to have the right actor portray him.

I'm pretty disappointed that Pierce isn't returning, either. He's the first one that's seemed right since Sean. There was a brief moment of hope when I heard Dougray Scott was in the running, but now? Hard to say. I must be getting old, or something. (sigh)

To address the second half of your post, I'm glad you'll continue to dance at Aladdin's Cafe. That gives me an excuse to drive into town every once in a while. :)

In descending order...

[identity profile] the-themiscyran.livejournal.com 2005-10-13 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Sean. Pierce. Timothy. George. Roger.

The next one should have been Clive.

Dammit.

Yeah.

Especially after watching him in Croupier so many times...

They're still making James Bond?

[identity profile] chronovore.livejournal.com 2005-10-14 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I care, but I cared more about Timothy Dalton than anyone else, so what do I know?

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2005-10-14 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Bond, schmond.
I feel ya.

and go for the gusto on the lolling. Be a total puss.
