A few points and a crappy year in review

After re-reading a lot of the comments to my post about Narnia, I think I've come to a conclusion about why Lewis's proselytizing bothers me so much. I feel he panders to his audience, using the fantasy and a child's wish to escape to emotionally manipulate kids into his belief system. I don't like that. I'm not attacking the people who do, and I would never say someone shouldn't like these books, ok? Like them all you want.

WinterSilks. The best. Thanks [livejournal.com profile] adammaker and [livejournal.com profile] rowangolightly for recommending them. I'm not exactly toasty, but I'm not freezing. A definite improvement.

From [livejournal.com profile] themadblonde comes this advice (which I doctored just a tad for my own grammar and brevity issues): My worst obstacles are the ones I create.

I'm ready for [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes to be funny and/or interesting again.

Copy the first sentence of the first entry of each month for 2005. There's your year.

Nearly 22 inches of mail. jjgalahad mentions today is Nerdy Haiku Day. I've had a hard couple of months so far this year. My wrist is doing much better. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie: Good. I just shut my car door and turned the ignition when I saw a cat trotting along the edge of the road. Had a huge turnout at Aladdin last night. Fuck, what the hell happened to summer? I so rarely remember my dreams. shrijani links to a wonderful line-by-line commentary of Hollaback Girl. Point first: Thanks everyone who gushed over yesterday's icon. I don't know if my post yesterday set it off or what, but last night I was struck down with a bad case of the Blue Fugues.

Well that sucked.

Oh, I'm so glad you ordered them and that they're helping. Here's to staying warm!

I think I'm gonna go put mine on!

Warmer Lydia -> happier Lydia, I hope.

Mine never made me toasty, but kept me from being cranky. 8^)

Mine seem to have vanished in the last move.
*darn*

Wow. Serious suxxor.

I'll take the time to re-hunt for them AFTER finals.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2005-12-08 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
*darn* indeed! I can't do a winter without mine!

As long as I can set aside the propaganda-ness of it, I can enjoy the story.

heh

"Narnia, aka My First Propaganda"

Here's hoping 2006 is better than 2005 for both of us.

re: Narnia- I expect I'll go see the movie just to see if I'm better able to comprehend Christian propaganda than I used to be. Until recently, I wouldn't have even noticed it due to my profound religious retardation. Since this is designed to indoctrinate children, I should be able to catch at least some of it.

What an interesting scientific experiment for you. I'll be interested to hear how it goes.

Three sentences should pretty much say it all:

"Oh. That was supposed to be The Crucifixion, then. Huh."

Yeah. I anticipate being alternately entertained by the swooshing and blood and confused at the thought of Deep Magic being Jesus Power or whatever the hell it is.

Just wait for someone to mashup Chronicles of Narnia with The Passion of the Christ, and that should be enough for either of us.

Just for the record, I wasn't trying to be antagonistic at all, just speaking to my thoughts on the Narnia thing. to each their own, eh? *grin*

glad the wintersilks took the edge off, been thinking about getting some myself.

And you weren't! I was just heading things off at the pass, just in case.

Your 2006 will rock. I have issued the edict. All must obey.

No Wintersilks listed in their brands list, but they do have something called China Silks. I wonder if they're comprable. Have you tried them?

I thought they were the same. =)
No, I haven't tried "theirs", but everything else we have gotten from them has been good schtuff =)

Every year I rehash the year and think about how much it sucked.
The past few years I've learned to take what sucked and try to decide what "good" derived from the suckiness.
For instance, I got laid off (corporate buyout) from a job that I loved. Had I not been laid off I wouldn't have started college. Something I've wanted to do for 20 years now. =)
