Change is in the air

  • I'm going to try to grow out my hair (I've been unable to reach my stylist for two weeks now)
  • I just bought some recycled silk yarn (on clearance! good cause!)
  • I just bought a 1970's dress pattern (view C! wear Inara to work!)

I swear to you, I am not turning into a hippie. Trust me on this. I expect a slight personal style morph from rockabilly to beatnik as I progress through my thirties, but no hippieness. I swear. If you observe hippieness, please stage an intervention.

And completely unrelated, but especially for [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick, [livejournal.com profile] sdemory and [livejournal.com profile] gmskarka: It's Not Fascism When We Do It. From Old American Century.

Beat Girl will suit you quite well, actually. As will the Inara-style dress, come to think of it.

We'll get the best deprogrammers on the market if hippieness starts to slip in. Rest assured.

Thank you. I trust you to correct my trajectory should you see it curve in an undesired direction.

    "It's not Fascism"...

    beautiful!

    (and scary)

    [identity profile] lionsaoi.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
    LOVE LOVE LOVE that pattern.

Any ideas on what fabric you'll use?

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's certainly a change of pace for me, although I've always been a sucker for surplice bodices. I'll use something asian-inspired, certainly. For a summer dress, any number of my oriental novelty cottons. For something appropriate to the current season, I think a pinwale cordoroy with an oriental brocade on the neckline and waistband would look very luxe.

OH! dying That would be lovely.

Sheesh, why couldn't I have acquired some half-way useful life skills?

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Sewing is a learned skill--not a talent. If I can learn how to put geometric shapes together to form a three-dimentional object, anyone can.

My dear, I would imagine anything you evolve into will be fabu.

However, I would doubt that you could head hippy...you bathe, after all.

If you opt to cut your hair again (meaning, the growing out thing doesn't suit you), and you can't get to your stylist, I will wholeheartedly recommend mine. He's the bomb.

    Thanks. =)

I don't know if I can afford yours. =D Right now the only way I can afford Galadriel is we work on a partial barter system.

    [identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
    I can understand that. Technically, he's $35.00 for a wash/cut.

That's Galadriel's rate, too. A bit high for me with this current cut seeing as it needs a monthly cut. And I don't think Mark would go for my suggested barter of an A-line skirt. =D

    see now...

I've seen you dance (well, in a film clip). You make "hippy" a VERY happy-inducing word. Ohhh, the images of those hips in motion.... ;-)

    =D

    hippy (not equal to) hippie.

    [identity profile] professormass.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)

    You'd make a wicked beatnik.

Allow me to snap my fingers at you from a candlelit table, and I will be the happiest man alive.

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
    *snap* *snap*, baby.

    [identity profile] adammaker.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I look forward to seeing you as a beatnik (yum).

Oh Great CR, how can I keep from being a hippie? 8^)

I like having long hair, but I DO keep it clean.

Darling, you are not a hippie. Trust me. You are much too active (not to mention bright) to be a hippie. There is a difference between "social activist and ecological pagan with long hair" and "big talker small walker who smokes too much weed and won't share."

    [identity profile] adammaker.livejournal.com 2005-12-28 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
    *grin*

I also plan on being a Long-haired Scientist for years to come.

mmmm. Smart people with long hair.... yummy.

And I totally did not mean for that to rhyme.

    *laughing*
It was still a wonderful, rhymed statement.
