Wow I'm tired

I must have slept like crap last night. I'm completely exhausted today. Not good when I've got an important meeting in an hour.

Ugh.

*blink*blink*

Finally made it to the Lawrence Knit and Crochet meetup at Aimee's with [livejournal.com profile] starstraf, [livejournal.com profile] fireguarder, [livejournal.com profile] roya_spirit and an (I believe) LJ-less person. Grand time, learned to do ladder stitch thanks to [livejournal.com profile] fireguarder, and got started on the scarf I'm making out of that recycled silk yarn. It looks very nice and oh-so-artsy if I do say so myself.

Lost the bid on those eyeglass frames. I'm holding out hope for a couple others that don't end until the weekend.

Now, to stay somewhat alert for the next few hours.

Um...I hand-sewed something for the first time ever in my life, two days ago! Consequently, knitting and crocheting seem just this side of magic to me.

I feel like such a goober. I was seriously all excited about it, too...

Good luck with the meeting. They never seem to schedule them during any other time than my mid-afternoon blood-sugar crash.

Kick ass!!! That rocks.

I managed to make it through the meeting without falling over, but now I'm snarfing down my lunch, lemme tell ya...

Important Meeting

That's an oxymoron if I ever heard one!

Well, they''re deciding the first round of graduate applicants: Who Gets In for Fall 2006. It's not the Geneva Convention, but it's something I needed to be awake for. =D

just curious...

is the recycled silk yarn the same stuff they advertise on the Hunger Site? I've been curious how that is to work w/, & what the predominant colour of your yarn turned out to be? I know it varies....

Yes. That's where I got it. So far I've been pleased. This is the first time I've knitted with something so varied in size and texture. It's interesting. However, it does not give at ALL so it is rather more tiring on my hands than expected.

Also, I was hoping to get one scarf per skein, but no dice. I'm doing a random ladder stitch on size 9s with 25 cast on stitches and it looks like it's going to be a skein and a half per scarf.

The color varied a lot between the three batches I ordered (I ordered three sets of three skeins). One is predominantly green, one blue, and one red. Mixing the skeins won't be a problem for a scarf, but I would hesitate to try to make something like a sweater out of it. You'd definitely see the color differences.

Of course, just from the texture of the yarn, I don't think this is really a candidate for an actual garment, anyway.

Hope that helps. Let me know if I can offer any more info.

that was a great help, thanks!

I've been wanting to beg a friend to knit or crochet a Faire shawl for me, & this was one of the yarns I was considering buying for it. Considering that I want a BIG shawl, I will look for something that I can rely on for more consistency in colour.

Yeah, if it's consistency and color you want, this is NOT your baby. It's really really funky-arty stuff. So arty, in fact, that I was planning to give this scarf to my mom but now I'm reconsidering. I think it's just a bit too funky for her. We'll see.

Also, the fibers aren't spun together very strong. I don't know that it would stand up to a faire-environment beating. I would recommend something along the lines of Lion's Brand Wool Ease. Something durable and washable!
