Ow

My arm still hurts. Pretty bad. No fives. Yesterday was so awful. I had to sit on my right hand and play a silly Yahoo! game with my left just to force myself to NOT USE my right arm for a while during the afternoon.

I think I'm developing food sensitivities or perhaps (*sad sigh*) IBS in my old age. Had a lovely Philly Cheesesteak dinner with [livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy last night. I included jalepeños and cheese on mine. Around midnight, I woke up with horrible, terrible stomach pains. Like knife-in-the-gut pain. I managed to force myself back asleep, but only for about an hour before I woke up in pain again. I think I did the hour-on-hour-off sleep thing until the alarm went off this morning.

Now I'm sitting, sore and sorta hunched over, at my desk. My entire abdomen aches with residual soreness. Plus, I'm absolutely exhausted.

The last time this happened I'd eaten out twice in one day, one of those times at Zen Zero (good, but spicy and fatty, like the cheesesteak). I thought it was just due to overindulgence, but now I'm worried it's just a hit-or-miss thing (I've eaten twice since then at Zen Zero with absolutely no problems).

I hope I'm not becoming one of those people who can't eat certain foods. That would make me very very sad. I'm still going out for Indian food this weekend, but I think I'll be taking a Zantac or two even before I eat, just in case.

So, today: Aching arm, sore tummy. Not a happy Miss Red.

OK, done with the typing for today.

It would be my suggestion if this behavior continues that you see a gastroenterologist.

Was it stomach pain? Or lower abdominal pain?

IBS is more like cramping (which either constipation or soul draining, sweating diarreha), rather than pain. Colitis (what I have) is double you over pain.

Ulcers, however, are caused by a bacterial infection that is curable with a course of antibiotics, so that might be the problem.

This was stomach pain stabby stabby pain. Lower abdominal pain (the kind that usually results in gas, diarrhea, and other unpleasantness) wasn't an issue. I'd actually kinda prefer that since at least once everything's out you're *done*...no, this dragged on for 7 or so hours, and was most definitely in my stomach.

Then it ain't IBS or colitis. I would suggest to get to a doctor. They can do a breath test for the bacteria that cause ulcers (http://people.ku.edu/~jbrown/ulcer.html), and get you on a drug to kill it ASAP if that's what's going on.

I would think that would be a strong possibility, if you had not really had problems up until recently. And if nothing else they could eliminate it as a possibility and hopefully figure out what is the problem.

Stabby stabby pain not good.

If it happens after Indian food tomorrow, I'm certainly going to see the doctor. Thanks for the link on the ulcer test. Interesting!

Of course, if Notty chimes in with "god my stomach was killing me, too" I guess I've at least figured it out for this instance.

No, stabby stabby pain is never good.

Um sorry no, cast iron stomach here, and no Japs!

I'm worried about your arm/hand. OK, not really worried just concerned. If there is something you think of that I can do to help, let me know.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm a little concerned, too. I spent nearly 4 months in PT for it last year. Bah.

[identity profile] starwyse.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Did the give you any exercises that helped?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, but have I been doing them. That's the question with the NO answer. *cough*

[identity profile] starwyse.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL
Oh.

Not to give you more to worry about, but...

When I was in grad school, I started having episodes of severe abdominal pain. It was always high up, kind of just below the sternum area. It was so bad I had to go to the hospital every time. They diagnosed it as panic attacks for a year. Put me on valium, then elavil, then tofranil. None of those helped, and finally they did tests and discovered I had gallstones! Once the gall bladder was gone, so was the pain! Just saying, if it's in that area, have them check it out. Gall bladder problems can cause pain in a number of areas, tho, so don't eliminate that if it is elsewhere. Good luck with both the abdominal and the arm pain!!

I second that...

Gallbladder problems are the first thing I thought of- esp. when you mentioned that it was a fatty meal and you don't normally eat fatty meals.

Oh dear. *sigh* My mom had her gall bladder out a couple years ago...I'm too young for that!

But isn't that pretty instantaneous? This was nearly a six hour delay after eating.

Not usually since you actually have to do some digestion before your gallbladder kicks in.

Why is your arm hurting? Sorry, I'm a bit out of the loop... No internet at home.

Sympathies on the food thing... Some of my favorite meals have started to disagree with me in old age!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The arm ache is from a decades-old repetitive strain injury that resulted in some bad tendonitis. It sux.

I am always trying to figure out which is worse: tummy trouble or a headache. I dislike not being able to think, but somehow tummy troubles always seem worse, or at least to cause more despair.

You are missing the ending semicolon in the ñ in jalapeño, btw.

My tum is feeling much better and I fixed the HTML. =) Thanks.
