May Fifteenth.
There's something that I used to mark on this day. I don't remember what it is. How embarrassing. It just seems like it has some significance. But I can't recall.
The Devadasis performance is over! The tech rehearsal wasn't really a tech rehearsal--the light guy didn't show. Um, oops. But it was helpful since it gave us a chance to mark our spots on a stage that was different from our usual rehearsal space and stage. We learned pretty fast that there was no way we could space ourselves to fill the stage and closed it back in to a fairly tight formation. We ran through it twice and called it good.
I was a little worried about the quality of the other performances. They seemed like they didn't really know the choreographies and everyone was terribly lackadasical. I mentioned to a couple of the troupe girls that I hoped they pulled it together for the show. If I paid $10 for a ticket for that level of performance, I'd be pretty peeved. But I guess putting on a show-quality performance at rehearsal just isn't an Indian thing because I was super impressed by the actual performances in front of an audience. So gorgeous! Even the little girls were really good!
Our performance went well. I didn't miss any steps or go in the wrong direction and I only wavered on one of the statue poses. We received several compliments and frankly surprised reactions that the white girls danced so well. It was nice. And oh my gods the little Indian girls all dressed up with the flowers in their hair and the dresses and the bindis? So. Fucking. Adorable.
Now that's over, I can focus on the Cairo on the Kaw solo. *cough*
Dentist appointment at 2:30 today. Yuck. Clean teeth = good. Introductory visit and x-rays at first visit to new dentist = suxxor.
