In which our heroine encounters new pills of all sorts

The Syntol arrived yesterday and I started taking it in the afternoon. "Take 1 to 4 capsules with 8oz of water (I hope watery iced tea will suffice) between meals." I'll be taking two at a time, two hours after breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This will certainly cut down on between-meal snacking. If I don't feel results in two weeks, I'll up the dosage to three.

Last night [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong got to use my grommet setter on [livejournal.com profile] everflame's new bodice. It was lovely to see them. And cookies!

The annoying part of the evening occurred when Girl #3 dropped off her fabric. One: she was more than 30 minutes late. Two: she didn't listen to my instructions on what sort of fabric to buy, so she got actual lining fabric to line the vest and belt instead of plain cotton. Three: Instead of purchasing at least four yards of fabric for the circle skirt like I'd told her, she brought three yards of very thin, totally see-through fabric. I told her neither the lining fabric nor the skirt fabric was going to work and she'd need to find something else. The stuff she'd bought for a skirt would make lovely harem pants, but no way would I make a circle skirt out of it. People. Come on. When the person sewing your costume tells you what to buy, fucking buy it. Now she has to go shopping again and we must arrange another drop-off time. Total waste of my time and her money. Guess which one I care about?

Gotta figure out what to take to Knit & Crochet tonight. I don't have any knitting projects I want to start with so much on my sewing plate. Maybe I can find something to take for handwork. I should get working on my bed canopy again. Maybe I'll bring that (That's what I'm doing in this icon--it's still in small pieces, so easily portable).

No one ever listened to the experts. I ran a dorm tie-dye one year, and told the hall staff to get 100% cotton t-shirts. They got 50/50 blends, of course. They were blended well enough that the shirts worked, but the results would have been so much better if they'd listened to the textiles major who knew dyework.

oh I know the problem! People were never on time to bring me things, nor did they get the right stuff, it was such a hassle.

But- absolute horrays for seeing lovely women and new sewing toys!

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That is exactly why I have it written into my contract and why I always went shopping with my bridal clients. If anyone brought me stuff that they'd pre-purchased without my approval, the hourly rate went up by 50%. Yeah, I got that hard-assed about it.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
No way do I have time to go shopping with people. I just refused to work with what she'd given me.

Although I think I would make her a pair of harem pants out of that skirt fabric for free, it was so gorgeous. =D

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I understand....it's completely different when it's for a whole wedding party. And I don't even DO that anymore!

*shudder* And average of six weddings a month for about 15 years was more than enough for me.

Now I usually get the stuff while I'm out shopping anyway and have them pay me back. But yeah, I'm with you on the "why in hell can't people follow simple instructions?"

[identity profile] philrancid.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you charge to sew things for people? Because if you did, maybe you could throw in buying the stuff for a minor charge, plus the cost of the materials.

Because, I don't know about anyone else, but to me it seems like people are better capable of simply handing oveer money than they are of listening. Paying attention is a function of the higher intellect...

...I'm sorry, what was I saying?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I charge an hourly rate to sew for people. This is the first time I've really done this, and it's certainly a learning process.

Unlike [livejournal.com profile] rowangolightly, I'm not interested in shopping for people, since there's no effective way of making them pay for something if they don't like it (I made an exception for that with [livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy since I know her tastes). But for anyone else? Sorry. If I can't use what you give me, you'll have to go buy something else.

The biggest irritant is I was hoping to have this girl's stuff done this weekend and now I won't. =b

I have grommet (one 't'!!) setter luv. :) Thanks again!!

Now she has to go shopping again and we must arrange another drop-off time. Total waste of my time and her money.

While I don't recall hearing an apology for wasting your time, at least she didn't try to blame you for her mistake.

Also, this is my first opportunity to use my new "crafy" icon!

Wrong Material

I think that Professormass said it best with "Trust the Fuck Head!"

People can't follow instructions. Even when you spell it out for them and put the really important stuff in bold - and underline. The clients I deal with are horrible and they're engineers!

People are sheep.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, god. Engineers are the worst at following directions. And you work with them? My condolences.

[identity profile] tattooedartgirl.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"she didn't listen to my instructions on what sort of fabric to buy"

I assume she probably knows nothing about sewing, and people just plain don't listen. She just heard "fabric to line the costume" and went to the fabric store and said "lining fabric" to the sales clerk.

I would have written it down as you told me, and took said list to the store. and IF I wanted the filmy material I would have gotten it in addition too, not instead of, the skirt material. Then brought it over and said "what can we do with this?"

And whats the synthol for??

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing is, she and the other girl came over to my place to look at fabrics they should buy. I showed them the different types that were acceptable for what they wanted and said "buy x much yardage of this"... *shrug*

Syntol, not synthol. For candida.

[identity profile] tattooedartgirl.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
ok...then they girls are just idiots! They shoulda wrote it down....when in doubt-write it out!

oh dreaded candida......I could use a good cleansing too. I was talking about acidophilous yesterday with Bernie, I never found it to work well with me, but she loves it.

lemme know how the syntol works for you

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I will certainly let everyone know how the Syntol works. How exciting, eh? =D
