Is this irony?
I'm so bad at accurately recognizing irony. I usually confuse it with funny/sad coincidence. Anyway.
So--good night of sleep last night, even with the early morning thunderstrom. Feeling great this morning, woke up before the alarm (mostly due to the early morning thunderstorm, but it was a gradual wake-up so that's fine). Get to work with the firm resolution to get started on the new website, go go girl, rah rah team, etc. etc. And...my password to upload stuff to the KU server doesn't work.
*cough*
Ooookaaaay. I put in a call to the Password Lady down at the comp center. Three hours ago. With my luck she's on vacation and I'm not going to get any progress on this website until Monday.
Irony?
But hey, I'm wide awake at my desk, which is a bit of a novelty these days. Too bad I can't take advantage of it.
I would very much like to take the afternoon off.

Have a peek into my life. It'll make you feel better.
This morning, I was supposed to make two Very Important bill payments. A client (an otherwise completely reliable, pays-on-time client) sent out a check from a city 50 miles away, a week ago.
It hasn't shown up.
Also, every week, like clockwork,
It hasn't shown up.
See? Things could be worse. You could be having my day.

Socratic irony versus inconsistency
incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result
So perhaps the inconsistency lies in the language, not your definitions. Don't know how many time I have heard people complain about the Alanis Morissette song, and my reply always is that just because a word has a preferred meaning does not mean that it can't have others. She may still be an ignoramus, but it isn't because she uses "ironic" incorrectly.
