Public Service Announcments

If anyone has a couple extra bucks to spare for a friend's kitty, please consider tossing a few to [livejournal.com profile] subplot2. See her post about it here. Very very sad. That's not a fun way to return home from one's honeymoon. Suck.

From [livejournal.com profile] shrijani: Please don't ever purchase Girls Gone Wild anything. The founder, Joe Francis is a thoroughly despicable person.

And finally: As you all know, it's That Time Of Year again. Please don't feel injured, abandoned, or ignored because I won't have time to hang out for the next ten weeks. It's not you. It's me. We can catch up after RenFest is over. Or maybe a give me a couple weeks to recoup. Then we'll hang.

My god, Lydia. What a horrific thing to happen to them and their cats. Talk about nightmares. It makes me want to hug and squeeze all the kitties I know.

:(

Oh, that is just heartbreaking! I'll drop her a few buck on payday tomorrow...so sad.

Thank you. I'm sure she'll appreciate it. Both she and her new husband are grad students. So = Broke.

I am so grateful for [livejournal.com profile] pamelonian and [livejournal.com profile] caliginess for keeping my fat kitties well during my repeated absences since last August. No matter how much I appreciate it, I wonder if I realize how lucky I am in light of hearing stories like this.

I am aghast. I am feel terrible for your friends. What a horror. I have seen one other pet-sitting situation go bad in my life - a friend of mine left for one week - her petsitter lost her cat, and her dog ate the sitter's prescription medication due to lack of precaution and supervision. [livejournal.com profile] subplot2's warning to hire professionals is all too valid.

Oh, that's so awful! Why would anyone do that? Did this evil catsitter just give them a big pile of food at the beginning of the honeymoon and then expect everything to be fine?

Oh, and I'm not surprised at all that Joe Francis is an asshole. I think it would go with the territory when you film drunk spring breaks year after year. How sad that the willing girls sell their bodies for a t-shirt and think it will give them a leg up on a modelling career.

I can't stand the constant GGW commercials during shows that would otherwise not be a problem to watch around my kids. Ugh. I'm not saying the world has to create programming that revolves around my kids, but I am saying that if the show doesn't have a MA rating, the damn commercials shouldn't, either. I don't want Pari to ever think that sort of behavior is OK.

I wasn't surprised to hear the guy is an asshole. It's horrifying to realize he's possibly a rapist.

[identity profile] geekmom.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
And that he'll likely never get caught or convicted, so long as his film crew backs off when he's busy raping virgins. :-/ He'll probably overdose first. Yes, that was very disturbing.

He gets the girls drunk and has them do things on camera that they wouldn't have otherwise done. For a T-shirt. It isn't surprising that he extends that into getting girls drunk and then raping them. He'd argue that they're just having morning after remorse, and that he merely "seduced" them.

It's a hard sell to get guys in general to realize that getting girls drunk to have sex with them is rape, whether they seem willing or not. And apparently it's a hard sell to get juries to realize a contract signed while drunk is not valid, even if it's for sex acts on camera.

His whole industry sickens me.

He'd argue that they're just having morning after remorse, and that he merely "seduced" them.

And you know? He probably actually believes it himself. *shudder*

What a foul excuse for a human being.

[identity profile] geekmom.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I'm sure he does believe it himself.

I intend to Paypal some fundange their way when I get home today. I had something similar happen once when I left someone to catsit who had never owned a cat, so food got left out to go bad and then fed to poor Cyr...who ended up with an abcessed jaw.

Your friends may still have legal recourse, even if their agreement was oral with this person. A suit in small claims court (which they could proscecute themselves and not have a lawyer) could get them the fundage for vet bills back...or at least put to the person who fucked them over.

D.

I'm joining in here, and sending a few $$. Considering I'm thinking of adopting another lil blackie... this is so sad.

I've never paid for GGW anything, but I've downloaded the dvd's online. I'll admit to being duped, I thought all the girls looked like paid professionals.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-08-10 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You, sir, are going straight to hell.
