Pushing through the final lap

Does anyone understand the point of this? Not to be a party pooper (although I realize I can be that), but honestly--so what? At least I wasn't in town for any of the Saturday homecoming festivities. Bleaugh.

The generator outside Wescoe is failing and we're having frequent brownouts, with one blackout so far. I'm glad I get to leave at noon today.

UPDATE: OH MY GOD there is a man sitting on the concrete barrier between two Diesel Fuel Tanks who just lit up a cigarette. Is there anyone to call about that? I mean seriously.

It sounds like a recruitment drive to me.

Aaaaaah. I bet you're right. Here I was thinking maybe they couldn't find enough pidgeons or balloons to release.

Pigeons or balloons + flyovers by blackhawk helicopters = Bad news.

Interesting snafu thought, though.

Recruitment, coupled with the whole ROTC hall-of-fame thing they did. You can read about it in the UDK if you're interested. Pretty much, from what I glanced at, they have a hall of fame for alumni who've done good stuff.

I'm still looking for the email where all attendees get paintball guns with the requisite red and blue paint.
That MIGHT make it have a point...

Oh! Homecoming! I wondered why there were so many cars coming into town as I was leaving....

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-10-09 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Living as close as I do to the stadium, I'm careful to track game days. =D

Holy Fuck!

how about calling Steven Scannell (assistant director of Design and Construction Management).

If he's not in charge of this MCF, he'll know who is...

I called F/O and they said they would relay the message to the construction crew.

Diesel fumes are RARELY flammable. Seriously. It's not like gasoline at all.

It takes forever to get a diesel fire burning, but once you do, it burns hot.

Good to know, but the workforce on that project has been a bit shtupid all the way along, they had me worried more than a month ago.

Funny how that really doesn't make me feel any better at all.

=b

Gotta love low bid state contracts.

Perhaps a call to the Darwin Awards nominating committee is in order?

I'm also guessing recruitment drive. Flyovers of a very similar type were performed at the Irwindale Speedway in Monrovia, CA when the Army was the primary sponsor for the D1 Grand Prix.

OTOH, when the Army rolled out to E3 to promote the America's Army Recruitment Tool free game, they'd bring their sniper-shag-suits, APCs, and HUMMV thingies, and even bring a transport copter from which troops rappelled down the building front. I don't suspect they got many people to defect from the game biz though.

You of course know that building you work in is doomed. Doomed. They should just give up, implode it, and build a limestone-and-red-roofed building that is anchored firmly into the hill and not so shoddily constructed, thereby saving a lot of money in future. Something that isn't the ugliest, most uncomfortable building on campus.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I know it is. I can't believe they're throwing this much money at it. Fucking morons.
