Columbus Day

Yesterday I left work after a half day to go dress for Chess Match. It was chilly and gray and I didn't feel up for it. Tess and I had some weirdness when the guy at the gate (we went in the front gate instead of the usual B gate) actually inspected our cards (took them out of our hands, even) then waved us in. Er, okay. I seriously thought he was going to ask for a second form of I.D. Please note, Oct. 9 was not listed as a performance day for us. So I have no idea what was going on for him. Like I said, weird.

Chess Match got off to a slow start and seemed to drag a bit. There weren't enough patrons at Smoker to warrant me staying to serve, so I dressed out and hung with the girls, making much of being in civvies in the lanes. It was fabulous. It should surprise nobody that Tess and I share a wavelength when we're drunk. Good times! Columbus Day was a great inspiration for me this year. I wasn't particularly looking forward to the final weekend, but walking around and getting to enjoy the festival for a few hours reminded me of how much I love interacting with the other performers and the regular patrons.

I got home late with an absolutely splitting headache. Three beers--or four? and very little food for the day is not a good combo for me. I dozed a bit on the ride home. A round of applause for Natalie for being such a trooper and going out to dinner in her itchy sleeves, then driving the two lushes home.

Today I'm moving a bit slow. I love the experience of working RenFest, but I am very glad that this is the last weekend. I intend to get the most I can out of it and then I will happily put it away until next season.
