Packing it up

Another round of RenFest is in the bag...or, at least, it will be as soon as I finish up laundry tonight.

Despite a horrific start of pouring rain and thunder, yesterday was one of the best faire days ever. I had an absolutely glorious time. A few of the many highlights:
  • Laughing myself to tears before morning meeting
  • Muskrat Theatre
  • Crossdressing Limeybirds ("Oh, wait, I'm a guy. I don't care!")
  • Bonkers Genny Whymsie
  • Pumpkin Soup of the GODS
  • Faboo reading by Lady Hawk
  • The End of the Guitar and the ensuing fangirl squabble
  • Early closing cannon!

Today, my lungs ache from breathing the cold, wet air, my hip joints are complaining loudly, and I seem to have done something to my left shoulder (?!?). But oh, what a wonderful last day. 2006 was an excellent faire season. I'm happy to put it away, but I know given enough time (and enough weekends spent in my flannel pajamas), I'll be ready enough bring it out again, Labor Day Weekend 2007.

Was Chess Match completely out of control yesterday, or did everyone still pretty much follow the script?

A couple lines got flubbed, but it wasn't nearly as crazy as Last Day has been in the past. Really, it was pretty tame yesterday.

Glad my umbrella and I could start your day off right...

I have a fantasy that the year I turn forty-four, I will have a jewerly booth out there. That's five years. I wonder if I need to get on a waiting list now.

I dunno! I'm sure there are folks on my f-list who would have a better idea of what it takes to get a booth...maybe they'll drop some advice.

Actually, driving in with you and [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong nearly every morning started my day off right through this whole run. I loved spending that time with the two of you, even when we were just quiet in the company of each other.

Well, from what I know, you have to build your own or buy one from someone who has one, provide insurance, keep it to fire codes etc. That it's pretty damn pricey for the exposure and sales has been my observation working for someone out there.

One of us willsurely be glad to hook you up with someone who's out there tho' so you can get the whole story and then decide if it's worth the expense.

Thank you. This is just the kind of information I need, and it sounds pretty daunting, which I suspected, which is why I call it out from the get-go as a fantasy.

I am also checking into the larger art fairs. All are horribly expensive, but temporary structures are cheaper in the long run than the kind of expense you're talking. I'm not keen on the idea, but it might be something I just have to do, and it might not suck that much.

I know Julie, who does Jewelry By Julie and has the little shop downtown. She does lots of art/craft fairs.
Maybe you could go in with someone already out there with just a few items and see how you do?

    That's a very good idea.
