Sassy pants

I feel much better today, sitting at my desk in my fabulously-well-fit new pants. Ahhhh. I'm serious, girls, McCall's 3992 is the best pants pattern I've ever sewn. I admit it won't work for short curvy girls, but if you're 5'5" or taller, with at least a ten-inch waist/hip ratio, this is the pants pattern for you. Make it up in a stretch twill and not only will they flatter, but you'll be comfortable, even sitting at a desk all day. I love this pattern. Can you tell?

I feel like Laura Petry! ::happiness::

And yes, I have to say, my ass looks fantastic in them.

This morning I passed a woman in Wescoe. She was standing on a ladder, changing a light bulb. All by herself. Anyone who is familiar with the way KU F/O works will be just as amazed/amused by this as I was. Usually it takes three men to change a lightbulb. I'm not sure why, but there's always three guys involved with lightbulb-changing here at KU. Today? One woman. One. Woman.

I'll let you make any conclusions you choose from that, dear readers. As for myself and my sassy new pants, we're very much looking forward to the weekend. Hope you all have a great one.

It balances the fact that women go to the bathroom in groups.

Must check to see if I have this one at home already. If I do - sassy pants, here I come! :D

You will be SO happy. I promise. Made in stretch twill, even the thighs have plenty of ease.

And hey, my name's already Laura. :)

That's so awesome.

I've written down the pattern number as well, although zippers can be the devil for me. I'm a fan of the creative usage of lacing, buttons, snaps, whatever, in order to avoid zippers. :)

Zippers were just a matter of practice for me. Get a zipper and lots of scraps and sew that zipper in and rip it out a million times. Here's my method for invisible zippers:

Stitch seam as normal, until you reach where the bottom of the zipper will be. Backstitch 1/4" back and forth a couple time for reinforcement. Lengthen stitches to longest setting. Stitch remainder of seam. Press open. Lay zipper down, centering on seam. Pin lengthwise, running pins parallel to zipper teeth. Stitch zipper in, using zipper foot, with fabric size to the feed dogs, zipper and pins face up. When done, flip your garment to make sure your stitch lines are somewhat straight. If you're happy with the way it looks, gently rip out the long basting stitches. Unzip your zipper, clip off any of the zipper hanging off the open end, and attach your waistband. The waistband will keep the zipper pull from flying off the top.

...I should do a photograph tutorial, maybe...

You might have to make some adjustments for calves--I know with all your walking you've got really muscular legs. But we're such similar body types, these should work for you!

Even better--a back zipper!!!

Well, the original pattern might call for a side zipper, but I have to angle that seam so much, I always put the zipper in back.
