New tradition, my ass.

I read this article on the KU website, which is about an organized scream during finals. Now what's funny is that (disgraced) Stephenson Hall started this tradition back in the 80s. It would happen every night (I think around 11 p.m.) during the two weeks of finals, and the old folks living in the apartment complex by the scholarship halls would call in noise complaints. I imagine the Chancellor wasn't a big fan, either.

Nerdboys can be terrors when left to their own devices. In a large group. With the back windows of two female scholarship halls within easy viewing distance. Stephenson was the renegade scholhall, even back then. I wasn't too surprised when they got slapped down for unacceptable behavior a couple years ago. But they did sponsor some fun events, including scholhall block parties, and the finals-week Stephenson Screams.

But now one of them is a university-sanctioned event, at a respectable hour of the day. And I bet very few people remember where it started.

I'm still feeling pretty under the weather. I'm sure I have a headcold. I have that weird behind-the-ears headache--the kind where your head kind of feels full, you know? Sore throat, etc. etc. And I slept all through the night and woke up to my alarm. So yeah, probably sick if I'm sleeping that well. *grumble* Perhaps, though, that full night's sleep can be chalked up to the two Hot Toddys I made yesterday evening. I'd never made them before, but I think I'll be making them quite often. These might replace the jug of mulled wine I usually keep in the fridge during the winter. Mmmm. I didn't have any whiskey, so I used Irish Mist Liqueur. Tasty.

I forgot my lunch at home.

Harvard has a scream too, but it somehow involves streaking. This link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primal_Scream_%28Harvard%29) is not worksafe due to a picture.

Cool article. Thank you! It's likely that's where the Stephenson guys got the idea.

Whoa....um, wanna share the love?

I made it per the directions I found for a standard toddy:

2 T whiskey/brandy/or in my case, Irish Mist
1 T honey
1 T lemon juice
1 tea bag
3 cloves
Put all in a mug and pour hot water over all, let steep briefly (not to full strength).

Now, if you mean do I want to share my Irist Mist...well, I'll have to think about that. =D

Ooo, the only thing I don't add to mine is the tea bag. I'll have to try that!

How about if I blow you a kiss...

Next time you come over for dinner, I'll make us a batch!

what kind of tea? black?

amazing icon pic btw.

The only black tea I buy is Yorkshire Gold, so I used that. I imagine any black tea would do. The recipe recommended Darjeeling.

And thank you!

Midnight Scream

When I lived in Hashinger in 85-87, we always had a midnight scream and Joe's run during Finals. If I remember right, we sometimes did it even if it wasn't Finals... As far as I know, we never got complaints.

You didn't live next door to the emeritus apartments or the chancellor. =D

I missed meeting you in Hash by one year. I hung out there a lot my first couple years at KU.

Hi!
KU - do you still live in Lawrence?
I see your comments in Sagendal & ProfessorMass's LJs sometimes, but I didn't realize you were in KS. My family's from Atchison & KC, and most of my relations, including my parents, went to KU. I applied, but decided on AU (in DC) instead.

Cheers!

Yup, still in Lawrence, after all these years.
