I gotta be in a meeting in ten minutes but I had to share this.

On NPR this morning, some Republican congressman (I'm sorry I don't remember who it was) said that the whole thing about non-binding discussion of Why We Don't Like Bush's Surge Plan was terrible and awful because the whole world was watching this and that makes us look divided and not in agreement and etc. etc. etc.

Note that wording, friends: the whole world is watching this. The whole world with the exception of George W. Bush, that is. Who isn't really sure what time the debate is happening and after all he's got a pretty full schedule on whatever day it is anyway.

I'm off to my meeting so I don't have time to find a transcript of that W quote from yesterday. But if someone could find it for me, I'll edit this entry when I'm out of the meeting.

EDIT: Here is an interview where W responds to questions regarding watching the House debate. But for the life of me, I can't find the Bush sound bite I heard played on NPR yesterday. Thanks a bunch to poincaraux for the links, below.

I disagree that the debate is "stupid." I, for one, am thankful that we have another opportunity to show the world (including many parts of the U.S.) that vast numbers of Americans do not support the current administration. I'm sick and tired of being lumped into the same hell-bound handbasket as those bastards. No, this non-binding resolution might not make a difference in our current foreign policy, but does it have an impact on how the rest of the world sees us? I believe so.

If the "whole world" has two active brain cells, they'd see that we are divided - and mostly disagreeing with the shrub on this one. Der! The wimpy non-binding bill doesn't speak nearly as loudly as the last election. The argument is so stupid it's laughable.

Ok, maybe I don't understand the concept of Democracy... but, um... aren't we *supposed* to be divided and disagreeing? Isn't that how we work best?

He really really is trying to ram anything he can find down our throats to attack Iran. I have a sick feeling we're going to let the Israeli's loose on Iran and then it really will get ugly.

Bush: Too busy for Iraq debate

The House of Representatives begins three days of debate today on the Iraq war, but don't count on George W. Bush to spend much time watching. "You know, I've got a full day," he says in an inteview with C-SPAN. "I mean, it's not as if the world stops when the Congress does their duty."

The president's schedule today? According to the White House, he and the first lady will "celebrate the fifth anniversary of USA Freedom Corps (USAFC) with a briefing on volunteerism," and then he'll visit the Anthony Bowen YMCA in Washington.

As for the Iraq debate? Bush says he's heard it all before anyway. "I already know what the debate is," he says. "I hear a lot of opinions."
