Friday quick wrap

If America broadcast game shows like this one from Japan, I might be more inclined to watch television.

Sorry for the lack of content 'round here lately. I realize you all are probably perishing for lack of news of my life. It's all so thrilling, I know. Brief wrap up:

Cleaning and sewing like a mad fiend. Got a lot done last night, thank gods.

Pondering whether to stress over not-yet-arrived passport.

Back to a three-meal-a-day eating schedule (with 500mg calcium supplement at each meal) after my mom's diagnosis of advanced osteoporosis. Will start on the weight-bearing exercise after trip to Italy madness is over. If I get to go to Italy. We'll see.

Office is nearly 100% done. Still waiting on relocation of phone and internet jack. You know how they say "you live at your level of means." Well, apparently I organize at just above my level of means. I have nearly twice the storage in this office than I did before, but I still don't have quite enough room for everything. I'm storing a lot more in my office than I used to, but still. Seems like everything should fit in a cabinet or on the shelves in here. But it doesn't--quite.

I was particularly funny in an email today, but the recipient didn't see fit to point out just how awesome my Awesome Funniness was in a reply email. Even though I'm giving her a ride home from work today. Fine. Whatever. Edit: OK, some small concession to my Awesome Funniness was just made in email. Fine. Whatever.

stroke, stroke...

Woah! I'll be sure to be explicit in my praise next time.

:p

After review, I've decided that this was the best one:

">> The government wanted to dip the problem in the bud.

Too bad the dip is already in the White House."

I didn't even know what to make of that one originally. But you opened my eyes wide to the potential humor.

=D

I'm just feeling onery this morning. Chalk it up to waking up at 5:30. But hey, Woo! Weekend!

It made me laugh! I like onery. Even if I don't like the word itself.

Probably the reason you don't like the word is that it's normally spelled, "ornery." (http://www.ornery.org/about.html) Perhaps CR meant that she was feeling one-like; that is, like herself.

I guess that's analogous to ornery....

I thought there was something weird about it. Thanks for pointing it out.

That reminds me

I have not received my passport yet, either. I mailed mine over Spring Break. I counted 10 weeks, and it should have arrived the first week of June. Only a week late so far. Mine was a renewal.

Actually, one of the main reasons I decided not to book a Peru trip this summer was that I did not have a passport number to provide the travel companies. (I don't know if they use the old number or issue a new one.) Also, I heard that they were having delays in the passport office and was worried I would not have it back in time.

When did you send for yours?

April 9. I was told eleven weeks, and that eleven weeks is next Monday, the 18th.

*drums fingers*

Contact your representative!

Contact your representative right away. Not kidding. The info that I got from the constituent aide who dealt with the teenager's passport was that they are taking at least 14 weeks, no matter what you were told at the time you applied. He also said that the best time to contact your rep and ask for assistance is at least three weeks before you actually need it.

I'm going to call on Monday--the official 11 weeks. I've still got a little over a month.

That should be enough time with Congressional influence. :)

Don't even bother with the National Passort Mis-Information Center. It's a call center in New Hampshire contracted out to AT&T that sends e-mails to the processing centers. They have about as much info about your passport status as you can get on your own through the official website.

I'm not bitter - I'm justifiably angry. Grrr.

I am so very sorry to hear about your mother's diagnosis. May you be able to stave that off from occurring in your future.

I also encourage you to contact your representative as soon as possible. There were a number of stories on NPR about the problem at the point they relaxed the rules for those traveling to Mexico, Canada and the Bahamas. The backlog is at ludicrous levels, so that the only an application even gets opened at this point is if a representative intervenes on one's behalf.

D.

That game show was awesome! :D

I know! Japan gets stuff like that, and we get fucking American Idol. WTF.

You aren't using your Superpower of Magic Stuffing. You know you have it. Just think of the stored items as fabric, and I'll bet they'll all fit.
Just don't take any out and unfold them.
