Perhaps you should try exporting them from IE7 (File | Import and Export...) into a file. Then, on the Firefox side, open the bookmark manager (Bookmarks | Organize Bookmarks...), and import the file (File | Import...) from there.
When I (horribly mistakenly) changed over to IE 7, I often found my bookmarks empty. I also would have it do NOTHING when I typed in a URL. As in, didn't even appear to be trying to find the address. NOTHING.
I gave it the finger and reverted to 6.
Looks like IE 7 is somehow 'infecting' your Firefox with the EXACT SAME ISSUE.
So far the solution response to this issue (which is campus-wide) has been rather laughable. I was told "oh, we have an uninstall option available for everyone!" Um, yeah. Didn't work. I told them it didn't work at 11:57 a.m. today. So far, *cricket*cricket*
The problem is, I can't even see my bookmarks anymore. So I don't have any way of actually copying the URLs. They all show empty. And nothing comes up with a right-click Properties either.
I stop storing most of my bookmarks on my browser. I use either del.icio.us (http://del.icio.us) or Google Bookmarks (http://www.google.com/bookmarks) to store my bookmarks, so they're available anywhere I go and sorted by tag.
That doesn't help your current situation, but it's good to keep in mind for future bookmarking pleasure.

That should make it OK, in the area of both hammer and nail belonging to KU.

Also, for the bookmarks that don't work: Right-click on the bookmark, select "properties" and see if the URL is showing up in the "Location" field.

Copy, paste, bookmark again.
