Mood = unchanged, despite the arrival of new boots

My boots arrived this morning. I'm not thrilled with them, although they do fit very well, and are quite comfy (perhaps, dare I say, even more so than my beloved Double-H ones). They're a soft suede, which I wasn't expecting, and rather olive instead of brown. The strap across the heel isn't functional, and doesn't move to cross over the instep. I'm not sure how I feel about having a decorative strap on such functional boots. I think I'm just going to leave one on my desk and look at it all day. Those of you on campus, feel free to drop by and give me your opinion. I'm looking at you, [livejournal.com profile] everflame and [livejournal.com profile] auroraceleste.

My newest issue of CRAFT: arrived yesterday (love to [livejournal.com profile] _luaineach!) and there is a very simple pattern for felted booties in it. Then today I stumbled across a blog that mentioned a felted cloche (thank you, [livejournal.com profile] tattooedartgirl for the CraftGossip.com link). I think I might try my hand (with help from [livejournal.com profile] bestill) at some felting this winter.

Wow am I dropping names like crazy there.

I am peevish, touchy, and out of sorts. Still. I'm not sure what needs to happen to resolve this. I'm thinking a long weekend with my parents is not the answer, but there's no changing those plans. I guess I'll have to deal with the attitude when I get back. I hope exercise and better eating is part of the solution. Certainly can't hurt.

I'll stop by when I take my break later today.

Yoga might help. But not necessarily as much as Time With The Boy.

Cool. I'll be taking my lunch in my office (late), so if you come by and the door is closed, just knock.

If it still lives on your desk tomorrow I'll stop by :D

I'll leave it here, so I can get your opinion. As I look at it more, I'm also not real sold on the weird decorative stitching high up on the shaft. It serves no function whatsoever and really isn't terribly attractive. But not noticeable on a casual glimpse.

Those look like really fun yet comfy boots. Unfortunately, my calve muscles are so big it's hard to fit tall boots like that.:(

How are things?

I have skinny calves and ankles, so I have the opposite problem with boots--they sometimes are too slippy around the ankle and I rub blisters.

Things are...eh. I'm in a weird mood funk. Will be very glad when that passes. Bleh.

Felting

I've done several felting things, mostly purses...one large one with the coat of arms of that English church I'm writing a book about, and a smaller one to go with my new winter jacket and hat. I've only recently learned how to knit, so my felted stuff's been crocheted, but that doesn't make much difference...pics of the St. Bart's bag are at http://www.precision-guesswork.com/misc-tbird-projects.html, towards the bottom of the page.

Whoa! Howdy, stranger! I had no idea you started knitting. And writing a book. Cool! Good to hear from you!

The knitting thing was postponed as long as possible. Crochet (and Tunisian crochet) are my fiber-art-of-choice, but after much temptation, I finally realized that nothing in crochet turns out like knitted lace. So I'm very slowly picking up enough knitting to do one of those amazing cobweb shawls. It will be a while...

Also it turns out that as long as I use wooden hooks or needles, the crocheting and knitting are *very* good for helping protect my hands against my rheumatoid arthritis, so I'm highly motivated to keep at it :-)

Holy crap! That Cleopatra hat is amazing!!!!

It started out as a less ambitious project. I wanted a winter hat with "Egyptian influence," that I could actually wear with a jacket I'm making out of some Egyptian tapestry fabric that's sort of a dull black with hieroglyphs in all different colors. So I made the Cleo hat, without the cobra or the beads.

But then I found a teal-mix yarn to use for embellishments on the jacket, and the lapis & amethyst touches on the first hat were just too bright, so I *had* to make a new hat (bloody artistic vision)...and then it occurred to me that it was the first week of October, and if I was ever going to sell anything even vaguely costume-related, now was the time...so I added the cobra and the beads and put it on E-Bay. I made enough money to cover the cost of the yarn for the replacement hat -- breaking even is always a fine thing -- and Cleo's favorite hat is on this month's cover of http://www.crochetinsider.com. Who knew? I thought I was just making more interesting things than doilies and baby clothes...

Weird, isn't it? Certainly not what I was expecting when I picked up the hook. Now that I've got the basic "cap" part of the thing done, I'm seriously thinking about making several of them in different colors and weights, for bad hair days and the like...
