Snarf

I just inhaled the majority of a (large) container of curry, courtesy [livejournal.com profile] adammaker. The only thing this stuff was missing was a big pile of naan. God damn but Adam can rock the Indian recipes. *burp*

Feeling a bit ... bolstered... by the scrumptious and filling lunch, I'll run down a quick review of the visit to the parental homestead.

Got in late Thursday night. I didn't complain, though, since the reason for the flight delay was the incoming flight from San Diego. Delayed due to forest fire. So there's always someone who's got it worse than you. It's good to have these reminders occasionally.

Friday morning we went to the Indiana Museum of art to check out the special exhibit on Roman Art. Nice exhibit, but it tried to do some weird social commentary tie-in at the end that made no sense whatsoever and wasn't mentioned anywhere previously in the exhibit. I'm not entirely sure it was worth the $12 special exhibit ticket price. But the IMA has free general admission, so special exhibits are the only way they make their money. Absolutely wonderful was the small and under-advertised special exhibit on Dior housed in the textiles section of the museum. While Mommy and Nana were finishing their lunch, I ran up to the second floor to take a look at this exhibit. Wow. Just...wow. The exhibit runs through January 13 and I definitely want to go back (maybe with a sketchbook) when [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick and I visit again in December. Seeing these garments in person was amazing. I'm also looking forward to more time in their Asian exhibits, which look fairly extensive.

Friday afternoon and Saturday morning I spent painting Mommy's bathroom and vanity area in the master bedroom. Not awful, certainly, and I'm pretty quick at painting. So it went quickly. Of course, it was...blue. HA! I did manage to talk Mommy into brown and white towels instead of trying to match the blue. The end result is actually quite nice, and looks beautiful with their new light-colored wood-laminate floors.

Saturday evening we went to a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant that really put Lawrence's local Vietnamese joint to shame. Gods, that food was amazing. Nana got a dish (number 78!) that was, possibly, the best marinated beef dish I have ever tasted. Number seventy-eight. I am definitely ordering that next time I can go there. I might have to put my foot down that we go there again next time, even if Daddy is in town (he is not an adventurous eater and doesn't go anywhere that isn't basic American Food unless under duress).

Sunday was Mommy's birthday and for her birthday present I want to church with her. Yay! It wasn't too bad, and I got a lot of a new dance costume designed in my head during the sermon. I did have one horrible "get me the fuck out of here" moment when they were in the singing portion of the service and the lyrics to one of the hymns contained a verse about destroying godless nations. I think it actually used the word "trampling." There was another line about how people who believe in "alien gods" have joined an "alien band" and I thought both those were good names for modern rock bands. But seriously--whoa. Xenophobic much? Scary. It's been a long time since I've been in a church and surprise! now I remember why. Well, like I needed reminded. But still.

Lucky lucky me, our December visit coincides with the Christmas choir show, so I'm going to go listen to it since Mommy's singing in the choir. No fear, [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick, there will be no pressure for you to attend this. I'm perfectly fine taking the bullet on this one all by my lonesome. I mean really, they do so much for me, I'm fine making myself uncomfortable for a couple hours to make them happy. And I tell ya, this dance costume is really pretty smokin'. Who knew costume inspiration could be had in such an unlikely place?

Sunday afternoon we visited my uncle & his family in Lafayette, and Sunday evening I watched The Next Iron Chef with Mommy and Nana (a lifetime supply of unnecessary dramatic pauses and overly hyped angst all in a single one-hour show!).

This morning, I got up at 4:45 (3:45 CST) to get on my flight back home. And now I'm just about halfway through my day here before I can go home.

Was that the episode about airline food?

1. Glad you liked the Curry.
2. overall, it sounds a pretty good time on a family trip!

Yes.....yes.....it.....it was.

Oh my gods! Talk about overkill.

It really was a nice time. I could've done without the church bits, but you take the bad with the good. Also, next time I'm going to make sure Nana and I (if nobody else wants to go) have an afternoon at the Giant Ethnic Supermarket. It's the size of Target--no shit. You'd just pee. I about did. That's where I found the Maggi crayfish bullion cubes.

LOL
- if I'm going to watch a food show, I want it to be 'how-to' not 'bum-bum-bum! Oh! the TENSION!'

I saw that Checkers is carrying the more common Maggi products, I should drop a note in their 'please! get this! box' for the crayfish cubes.

Well, apparently that's why we have YouTube.

BTW, Aladdin Cafe has increased their grocery area dramatically and they might be carrying Maggi products, too. Go support Mohammed! =D

Yay for an all-around balanced time with the units.

I left a pattern on your sewing table, and I have a pendant-of-coolness I should drop by to show you tomorrow.

OK! Or Kerri is coming over tonight around 6:30 for tea and to drop off some fabric, if you'd like to have a threesome. =)

One Sunday about a million years ago, I was sitting between my husband and my father in law during a responsive reading, and they said something that struck me so funny I started laughing. Of course I got an elbow in the ribs from both sides.

When we got out, Dad said "OK, now what was so funny you had to laugh in church?"

"Did you pay attention to the responsive reading, and what you were saying?"
"Uh, no."
"Here we were in an Episcopalian church, and you guys said 'Save us from schism, oh Lord' and I thought 'what a batch to talk!' -- and I really couldn't help it when I started laughing."

"OK, I guess it was pretty funny."

You just pointed out the problem with the vast majority of religious followers.

=D

Well I certainly thought it was a valid question!

See, one big problem with church is that I always paid attention, and if they were parroting something I didn't like, I wouldn't say it.
