Although my answer might change depending on the nature of the "matching cover".

Here is the set in question (http://secure.checksinthemail.com/product.aspx?lineid=396&productid=1303).

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Gosh, it's cute as all get-out, and with how few checks get written these days, they might last you a lifetime. On the other hand, $40 for checks. Well, I guess they're expensive these days....

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The regular checks re-ordered from DeLuxe would be $20. That's the box of checks with no cover or address labels.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, in that case I vote Buy 'Em!

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, as the cover is leather, I could get behind that purchase. $40.00 for checks - ouch. $40.00 for checks and leather cover, not so ouch.

However, would you be able to get replacement checks without having to buy a damn cover each time?

D.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the $40 is a package deal for checks, address labels, and cover. I can order just the checks for less. I go through a box of checks about every two years.

[identity profile] kansas-dave.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
For just over a nickel a day, these could be yours!

To [livejournal.com profile] everflame: Har har.

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably the same reason I was "wasting time" discovering [livejournal.com profile] coffeeem this morning. :D

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Our box of checks are older than Ada. That's how much we never write checks.

So, if you are an infrequent check writer, I'd say get them because you won't be refilling them often.

If you do write checks often, I'd probably still say get them because if they were adorable monkey checks, there wouldn't be any question on whether I would buy them.

If I could get an adorable monkey debit card, I'd squeal with glee.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
=D

A box of checks lasts me about two years. Most of them go to friends and my yoga teacher since I pay all my bills online.

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm still pissed off that they discontinued the Maxfield Parrish checks I LOVED. When I find something else that strikes my fancy, I will...until then, I'll stick with boring checks.

Hell, why won't they let you download your own image on one, huh?

And yeah, I'm feeling singularly unmotivated today too.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)

I mean, if you can do it for US postal stamps...

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
My dad has used them for a couple letters. Here is the website (http://photo.stamps.com/Store/?source=si10985886).

Cool....I've bookmarked it! I mean, SO can't do luxuries like this now, but sometime!

Bookmarked.... Thanks!

[identity profile] darkgaze2002.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I would buy them in a heart beat! I bought a box of checks two years ago and I still am using them. Totally worth the money for me when I bought my Disney checks, and even more priceless when I get to one and remember fondly of my childhood.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I figure if I have to write someone a check, I might as well get a smile out of it while I'm doing it.

[identity profile] darkgaze2002.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Even after you had used up all of your checks, you'd still have the check book cover afterwards. do it, you know you wanna. ^_^

[identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Arrrrgh! Almost anything I say will be evil.

Don't you need a couple more pair of boots or something?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Why, yes, now that you mention it, I DO!!!

[identity profile] motherpockets.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I paid that much for my box of Sorcerer's Apprentice checks. I didn't even get a checkbook cover (but I already had one that I like a lot). I don't regret it, and still have about 3 pads of checks left. As someone said, how many checks do you write? Mine have lasted about 3 years so far, so it breaks down pretty well.

[identity profile] adammaker.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Put it towards dancing!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
What was that weekend again???

[identity profile] adammaker.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Dec 1st!

There was a time I would have said Do Whatever Makes You Happy, and that was about ten seconds ago, and then My Evil Twin the Practical Roya stepped in and said "Get Real! You don't use them enough to make you that happy about it."
Get a Hello Kitty change purse instead.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't use them enough to make you that happy about it

Eau Contraire. (HA! I kill myself)

Every time I looked in my purse and saw the checkbook cover, I'd get all wiggly.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)

You too funny.

[identity profile] ladyniniane.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I vote with this one (change purse). And that's what I did for dancer daughter (aka sewfastdancer here on LJ), only she got purse, bag and lots of other nifty things when I went to the Hello Kitty stores when I was in Fukuoka two years ago.
