Back at the grind

First, a thank-you to [livejournal.com profile] chronovore for suggesting the fantastic combination of Bailey's Irish Cream and hot cocoa--something I never would have considered. Magnificent taste sensation, buddy. *thumbs up*

What a wonderful four-day weekend! I had a great time, despite the fact that I simply couldn't bear to change out of my pajamas yesterday. So we never made it to the Alien vs. Predator movie. Instead, I recovered from [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick's mother's surprise visit with copious amounts of sugar and Magic Card organization (only two more colors--and lands--to go).

Today is going to be a bit busy at the office--as soon as the mail arrives. With any luck, I'll get flooded with application materials and will be able to close out some of these files that are only lacking one or two supplemental materials. I feel for the poor kids who are missing only letters of recommendation. Even though it's not their fault the letter writers don't submit their part by the deadline, it's the applicants who get punished. Boo for irresponsible faculty.

There was some excitement in the household this morning when Fetish pointed out to me that the New Hamster was loose--and hiding under the refrigerator. Good kitty! Poor [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick had to be roused from sleep to move the appliance and make the catch. I had to leave for the office. She's back in her cage now, and we are considering aesthetic ways to lock shut the penthouse portion of the CritterTrail. Wily little beast.

Aha -- the part I call the Princess Tower. Aesthetically pleasing it isn't, but I put a small binder clip on the door handle, and the I got a fat rubber band and wrapped it three times around the clip, and brought the third turn down over the handle on the tower body. I then took tape and put two pieces over the door rubber band, and one long piece over top of the binder clip and running down the sides of it, over the rubber band turns, to the door itself.

I don't think Coco can escape that way without a lot of trouble.

...and opposable thumbs...

She may be a mutant. Her little paws are awfully agile, and she can hang onto a snack like no little animal you've ever seen. She also climbs really well.

My sis had a hamster we called Fifi Houdini because she could escape from anything. One day I watched her -- she took her carrot and jammed the wheel with it, then she climbed on top of the wheel and pawed at the piece of glass (weighted with a brick!) on top of her cage until she pushed the glass back far enough to escape. It was just amazing.

I know!!! It's crazy. They're so very, very clever. And yes, they do have sort-of opposable thumbs. Thank gods they're not very strong or we'd all be sunk.

It is the best way to have cocoa--also with the addition of either Buttershots or Frangelico. Oh, and I had some with Caramel Baileys. Also good. Caramel Baileys is also wonderful made into cheesecake. I haven't tried mint Bailey's yet, but I think I'm going to pick some up the next time I'm out. I think that would work with cocoa as well.

Speaking of, I ran out of your cocoa and switched to Swiss Miss, and Ick! Now I feel the need to make it myself.

Thanks for the boozy cocoa tips. I love Buttershots in my cocoa, but never even heard of Caramel Bailey's...

Mmmm. I'm a fan of McCormick's Egg Nog Liquor in my cocoa too.

Kaluha in cocoa. Yes! Even add a bit of coffee for that mocha kick. Amaretto in cocoa, or better yet, in a strawberry milkshake. It's killer good.

Ahhhhhh!!! Too many good ideas and not enough room for liquor bottles in my cabinet!

*bows*

Yeah, because neither Bailey's nor cocoa is sweet enough on its own.

As a kid I used to eat saccharine tablets. The phrase "it's too sweet" has absolutely no meaning to me.
