Bloat

Ugh. Two restaurant meals in two days and I am a puffy tick--overdosed on sodium and not happy about it. Even [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick's baggy jeans are biting into my waist in an uncomfortable way. Ouch. Today is going to be All About The Diuretics. Boy do I wish I had some AquaBan stashed away. Massive amounts of Earl Gray are going to have to suffice.

On Friday I went to the Shiva Dance thing (affectionately referred to by me as "Hippy Dippy Dancing") at ECM. It was...ok. The DJ, while he seems like a nice guy, needs to hone his skills. There were a lot of jumpy segues, and at times it sounded like he changed his mind about a song three seconds into it. That was distracting. There were very few uptempo songs. It was a little too laid-back and didn't encourage the workout level I'd hoped for. I broke a sweat, but never got out of breath. Also, that linoleum tile floor took a toll on my back. If I continue to attend these events (I'm going to wait to see if their schedule evens out a bit more) I shall purchase a pair of quality jazz boots and put some heavy-duty insoles in them. Well crap. I just did some research and the style I like is apparently being discontinued by Capezio. Typical. There's someone on eBay that has the liquidated stock from a store...who knows how long those will last. *sigh*

I washed my hair this morning, so all the oil that keeps it manageable is gone, gone, gone. Free of its restrictions (and a desperately-desired haircut, but no--I am strong), it is curling and waving in annoying abandon. I have the only hair I know of that feathers of its own accord. While this trait was appreciated in the early 80s, it is now a source of distress. At this length (and for another two inches or so) my hair forms an 80's Princess Di 'do all by itself with no product or curling irons whatsoever. Tragic on so many levels. Therefore: Hat. I made myself three over the weekend and am now on the hunt for more cute (and free) hat knitting patterns. [livejournal.com profile] thefox_rb gave me a crochet lesson last weekend. I should look into practicing that a little more to see if I can reach a competence level equal to my ability and speed with knitting.

The laminate for my cutting table should arrive this week. With luck and effort, I might have a sewing room again by the weekend. I'm itching to make some new clothes. If my hair looks like crap, I'd like to distract from it with fashionable attire.

Two things I missed doing with you this Saturday. I should have grabbed the gooey hair wax and seen what kind of wild beach-hair/spikey look we could come up with for you.
And the other.. damn! I wanted you to see I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence. (http://www.amysedarisrocks.com/) I love it.

I've paged through the book at someone else's house, so no worries there. It's a hoot!

The problem with gooey wax is I'm trying to avoid all product (and thus, any extra washing) while my hair grows out. No product, no styling, no blow-drying. Nothing that will cause any extra breakage--and hence slower growing. As a result, I really hate my hair at the mo'.

Have you ever tried the "noshampoo thing"?
There's even an lj community no-poo for it.
I think they use ACV rinses and such instead of actually shampooing hair.

Yeah, but the no-poo people are also usually no-product as well. I mean...how else would you get the product out? It's not like you want layers of layers of that stuff in your hair.

The no-poo route is for people who go 100% natural hair care, pretty much. I'm totally for it and have considered trying it, myself, when I had long hair and didn't style it with product.

Um right. That's why I brought it up to you. ;)

Oh! I thought you meant as a way to "wash" my hair and still use product.

Ah! Good to hear the hippie dippie dancing does exist!

I still hope to make it some Friday night...maybe it will get better with practice. ;)
