The early present

0 and I went out yesterday to buy my xmas present, even though it's still a couple weeks until The Big Day. The grocery store had some amazing meat sales and I got to restock after the Fridge Disaster of 2003 with minimal damage to the bank account. I was not going to spend hours wrapping up meat for the freezer, so, ta-da, early present time! And, since it involved the use of a new appliance, 0 was happy to help get the food ready for long term cold storage.

And a trip to Sam's on Saturday allowed me to restock the pantry with such necessities as diced tomatoes, cream of mushroom soup, and coffee. So if we get the 4 inches of snow that are predicted for this evening (ha), I'm all set for being snowbound until next week.

Tell us how well your new present works. I've been considering getting one, but don't know if I'd use it enough.

You are optimistic, aren't you? I don't believe we'll get it, just because the forecast has been wrong every time I've looked forward to precipitation for months. But I'm happy to hear that you were able to restock freezer and pantry with less monetary damages than anticipated. That is always a bit of redemption in crisis recovery.

I love it. I wish I'd bought one years ago. If you buy stuff (especially meat) in bulk, this will make your life sooooo much easier. I didn't buy the one that has the space for the roll of bags and built-in cutter 'cos it was $50 more and I figure I own kitchen shears =) but if you have the money to blow, you might consider getting the one that's just a step up from mine. I also wanted something that took up less counter space, so I opted for the smaller model.

Actually, I hope we *don't* get it. I hate snow and I drive to Baldwin on Mondays for yoga. So I really hope it passes us by.

You know, if you want to buy a roll of the bags and try mine out for size, you're more than welcome to borrow it for a weekend. Lemme know.

Wow that's so cool! =D I've thought of getting one myself. I've read a few really cool things about using them to pack travel gear as well as food, because you can suck a lot of the air out of your socks and sweaters and pack a lot more efficiently with little vacuum bags. This of course begs the question of "what do I do with the clothes after they re-inflate", but hey, it's all in the name of SCIENCE! =)

I think mine is too small to accomodate something like a sweater. The largest bag roll I can get is one that's 11" in width. Hmmm. Might be able to get my cashmere twinsets in something like that, but not the giant bulky ones.

Yeah, for camping stuff it would rock, but I am allergic to the outdoors, so unless "Camping" means "Hotel cheaper than Marriott", I'm not familiar with the process. =)

I will date the girl from Venus--FOR SCIENCE!

You and I can go camping together any day. If my tent doesn't include a shower and Continental breakfast, I ain't going. ;)

"Roughing it" means there's no room service.
