Dreaming
When the alarm went off this morning, it woke me from a dream. I so rarely remember my dreams, and this one was a real treat.
I was either living in NYC or a frequent visitor. I knew my way around and felt very comfortable getting the other people I was with to and from places.
We were at a Broadway show that sold tickets by section of the show. Some parts of it were sold out, but other parts still had tickets available. The availability was posted on the outside of the theater, with "Sold Out" plastered in strips over the marquee poster, just like they used to. For some reason, I was taking care of the (large) pet snake owned by one of my visiting friends. Because I had seen the show before, I agreed to hold it so she wouldn't be distracted during the performance.
After the show, we walked around for a while and I was showing someone a bridge that was crumbling. The city was doing lots of restoration work, but it was still pretty dangerous. My friend tried to walk down some concrete steps that were below a broken part of the bridge, but I stopped her. The water was washing up onto the steps and I could tell it was slightly greenish, but there was absolutely no moss. I don't know if the steps were new, but I don't think so. Everybody but my friend knew to not go down them.
Then I was at a bakery/deli/diner thing and
adammaker was telling me how every time he visited a big city he would order this certain item at this particular type of place and if was good, he knew it was a good bakery/deli/diner thing. The place was like a noodle shop in that it had standard items on the menu that every other noodle shop has, and you know if the Pad Thai is good, then everything is going to be good. Only this was some sort of weird Eastern European bakery/deli/diner place, not a noodle shop. Anyway,
adammaker ordered his pastry-thing and declared it quite good. I know he said the word in the dream, but it was something crazy long and German-sounding. While he was eating it, I began to wonder where the snake was.
And then the alarm went off.

Your dreams may vary.
Spanikopita, Pirogies, Eggplant Parmesan, cheese blintzes, Chocolate Malt Shake.
But: if it was a Eastern European pastry thing, it would have been a Bavarian Kirschtorte.
*yum*

I believe you referred to it as "raisin bran you can hold in your hand." Wow, cool these details that are popping back up to the surface now,
