I always knew I liked Peter O'Toole

Please read this Yahoo! News story about the drunken, debauched lives of Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Oliver Reed, and Peter O'Toole. Please particularly note this tidbit: "O'Toole, who soared to fame in "Lawrence of Arabia," once beat up a policeman after seeing some of his colleagues rough up a prostitute."

So for those of us who have been wondering why nobody cried foul at the Johnny Vegas show or helped the U. Connecticut woman during her assault, all I suggest is that the world obviously needs more Peter O'Tooles.

Especially Peter O'Toole, c. 1963.

I'm not saying he's a saint or anything, but that's just fucking spectacular.

Did you ever catch him in My Favorite Year? Loosely based on Errol Flynn's appearance on the Sid Ceasar show back with TV was live. Fun movie.

One of the actors I always like to watch (Flynn and O'Toole :) ).

Yes! It was the first thing I saw him in (it was on HBO and I think I was 13 or so). I was absolutely smitten.

*13* ?!?!?!? You *itch :).

I almost missed seeing him in Troy, caught it while flipping channels recently.

Hey, I can't help it when I was born!

I did not know it was possible to have even more love for Peter O'Toole. The only time in my life I've ever watched the Oscars was the year he got his lifetime achievement Oscar and it was fabulous. :)

Also, that picture is haaaaaaaawt. Yow!

that picture is haaaaaaaawt.

I. KNOW.

Seconded! Yum.

Speaking of yum, have you seen this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101659/)? The EWWWW, ICK! vs. Mmmmmm! factor is oddly compelling. O'Toole is, of course, the best thing about it.

Never even heard of it! But anything that describes the heroine as "a lovely and sensitive girl" makes me beg for her downfall. Here's hoping it was it a deliciously awful tumble down that rabbit hole.

I am also a Huge O'Toole fan, remind me to tell you an amusing drunken Harris anecdote I heard him tell on a late show once.

Cool!

I can't parse that grammar. The policeman's colleagues roughed up the prostitute, I'm guessing?

Peter O'Toole is pretty damned great. I came to like him in The Stunt Man.

Judging from the company he kept, I doubt it was O'Toole's companions who didn't play nice with the doxie.

[identity profile] chronovore.livejournal.com 2008-05-22 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Bonus points for use of "doxie."

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-05-22 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I play a whore at the local Renaissance Festival. I've got a collection of terms, believe me.

[identity profile] chronovore.livejournal.com 2008-05-22 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"terms" - you misspelled "fans."

[identity profile] chronovore.livejournal.com 2008-05-22 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hell, O'Toole's so rich and strange, I bet he could pay for a pair'a doxie.

Ar ar ar.

Hooray for kick-ass people like him, and the kick-ass people who love them. What gives with the fucking lame fame-whores we're stuck with today? It sucks!!!

[identity profile] chronovore.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Crudely but accurately put. We are stuck with the drain-leavings of celebrity.

HOORAY PETER O'TOOLE! I mean, I knew he was cool, but I had no idea he was that cool.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-05-22 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Makes me want to organize a local weekly Peter O'Toole movie-watching series.

Add it to the list of things to talk about next time I see you!

Dang, he is so hot in that picture. I want me a 1963 Peter O'Toole.
