Good girl

For those of you tsk-tsking over my lackadaisical attitude towards the possible academic careers of bright graduate potentials, please know that I filed all the damn materials yesterday afternoon and even checked files for completeness. Then I called the people who were only missing one or two items to remind them of the January 1 deadline for first batch application review. See? See? I am a good secretary. Sometimes it just takes me a while to get there.

When I got home, I opened the cards that had been on my desk. Two of them were from grad students. Awwwww. What good kids. I really do like my job.

In the not-so-good-girl category, however, is the fact that my Spanish final is tonight at 7:30 and I haven't studied one teeny tiny little bit. I don't remember the past imperfect tense for verbs ending in -ir or -er and I know I'm a little shakey on the vocab for the past two chapters. So tonight I'm staying on campus to study instead of going home between work and the exam. It's going to be a long day.

Horrific. There was a girl in there--we'll call her Typhoid Mary--who hacked and coughed almost constantly the whole time. I finally gave up trying to concentrate too much and just filled in the multiple choice and fill in the blank. I completed only the written phrases that I could do easily and without too much effort and called it good. I was really really annoyed. It sounded like she was trying to get rid of a lung.
