This is the wire. I am down to it.

Last night when I was going up to bed, I fell on the stairs--pretty hard. My foot slipped out from under me and I landed with all my weight on the Mound of Venus on my right hand--right on the edge of a stair. Ouch. It hurt so bad that I couldn't fall asleep because of the throbbing. I went back down to get my Hello Kitty Cold Pack and fell asleep with my hand resting on that. It's still very sore today. I can't stretch my hand all the way open, or make a tight fist. Luckily, I got a lot done on the costume before I retired for the evening.

The garment pieces of the costume are done. Meaning: I could wear it in public without being arrested for indecent exposure. I know. Several of you will be disappointed about that. Too bad.

[livejournal.com profile] bestill was an angel and dyed some shortie gloves for me, so now I have something to wear on my hands.

I'm still trying to figure out how to (securely) fasten the guns to my person. I have the frilliest, most girly-girl "holster" (and when you see it, you'll know why I couldn't not put that in quotation marks) imaginable for the western-looking gun, but I'm not sure how I'm going to secure the space-age-looking ray gun. It's difficult to make a holder for an item that you don't want to cover up. I should be looking at this as a design challenge, but at this point in the game, it's just an annoyance.

If my ribbon for the corset lacing doesn't arrive in time (I ordered it May Sixth) I shall be Very Pissed Off.

I'm leaving work today at noon and will probably take all of tomorrow off. Lucky me, this is a super-slow time at work. As long as there is somebody here to keep the offices open, nobody really cares when I show up or don't.

Oh, and I went to bed at 11:00 last night. Woke up at 5:57 this morning.

Yeeowtch. Sorry to hear about the fall; those can sure be painful, and embarrassing.

Thanks. Luckily, nobody but me was home, so I was spared the pain of humiliation. I just had to suffer the pain of pain.

It could've been much worse--if I'd broken my hand or sprained my wrist and been unable to finish the costume? Ugh. How disappointing!

I might try this technique. After this last weekend, I am feeling so very run down and have been sleeping solidly from 9:30 to about 6:30. I've got to get back to my up at 5:10 routine!

Hope your ribbon shows up. :/

If my body really is telling me I only need seven hours of sleep, I'm going to be able to get a lot more done.

Hmm -- when you started talking about the "Mound of Venus" I thought you were referring to your mons venus and I thought, "Well, can it really be all THAT bad?"

I have to admit that was my first thought on scanning Venus also. And my graphic brain was coming up with odd ways to fall on the stairs on that.
*g*

I'm glad you had a lot done already, and hopes that the soreness goes away soon, poor darling.

The only thing I can think of with the holsters is straps with snaps.
(That's fun to say.)

Look forward to seeing it.. and you, eventually ;)

Luv,
Your very lazy friend.

I don't know if the materials you use allow for it, but a magnetic holster would be pretty cool. The gun would be totally visible, clinging to your belt (or wherever), ready for action.

I, for one, am excited to see the results. I'm hoping that if you crow loud and long that this is Steampunk, all of the washed-out neo-Victoriana will fall before your stylistic onslaught and I can stop hating the movement so much.

It's exhausting, hating the movement as much as I do. I give about half an hour of sleep up every night, seething at the thought of it. Sad, I know, but necessary.

=D

You're awesome.

Picture me as a combination of a travelling compatriot of Sir Richard Burton and the daughter of Phileas and Adouna Fogg. Throw on a corset and some firearms, some fishnet hose and winning smile. You've got it.

I'll hopefully have pictures on Monday or Tuesday.
