Quickly

I saw this on [livejournal.com profile] adammaker's fridge last weekend.

It's important.

The solution doesn’t involve watering down my every little idea and creative impulse (and opinion) for the sake of someday easing my fit into a mold. It doesn’t involve tempering my life to better fit someone’s expectations (or desires). It doesn’t involve constantly holding back for fear of shaking things up.

(my additions)

Niiice.
Here's one back atcha:

A ship is safe sitting in the port, but that's not what ships were built to do.

A ship is safe sitting in the port, but that's not what ships were built to do.

I'm curious what that means for you...

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure!

I'd rather be out there with the wind in my sails, no matter what the danger.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
But what is "out there" or "not in port" mean to you?

I've always been someone who appreciated feeling like I am home, rooted, and safe. I get more done that way, I'm mentally and physically healthier that way, and I am more open to new experiences when I have a solid base. That's not to say I don't enjoy travel, but I am a much happier human when I have a stable physical environment.

Without using metaphors, what does that phrase mean to you?

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, I forget that we have such different outlooks at times.

(wow, it's hard for me to not speak in a metaphor of some sort!)
Not in port for me would be taking the risks, always moving on, going from one place to another and not sitting still in one place.

Considering my entire background as a military brat, being moved from place to place all the time, this isn't really surprising. I stay in one place too long and I get itchy, uncomfortable and find ways, both consciously and unconsciously, to shake things up and make changes.
I need a change of scenery to feel refreshed and whole, and to get back to being able to move forward in life.

I think that since I've been rather rooted in one town, my changes have come from being in different social circles, interests, and of course, hairstyles. Maybe safer changes, but still changes all the same.

and of course, hairstyles.

Best. Answer. Evar.

YES.
I try to read that

Mmmmm. Thank you. I need to hear that occasionally. :)
