Heart Shaped Hole
Guy Forsyth's show last night was (predictably) amazing and I don't at all regret feeling a bit tired this morning. Completely worth it, and I'd go again tonight if he was playing. There are few things I enjoy more than dancing to good music with good friends. I'm very happy to report that I'm not sore or achey at all, despite at least two hours of moving and shaking on the dance floor. This exercise stuff apparently works. Who knew?
During one of the songs, I got a flash of inspiration for a shrine piece. I've never done a shrine, but I've been wanting to for a while. We'll see how this goes. The song is "Heart Shaped Hole." I'll post results when it's finished, although that might not be until after Faire. Probably won't be until after Faire. Quite unlikely to be done until after Faire.
I started the bra base for a third costume on Sunday. It's inspired by Sarah Skinner's Cowrie Shell costume. I also have a nebulous idea for a brown velvet/olive green costume, based on some gorgeous three-inch mirrored trim I bought in Chicago years ago. I'm wondering if I should combine the two. I don't want my costume to scream COWRIE SHELL!!! as much as Sarah's. Hers is, I think, absolutely gorgeous, but I want a little more...funk? in mine.
Some sort of insect--mosquito? chigger? continues to nibble at me, somehow, despite my minimal exposure to the outdoors, and complete avoidance of walking on any surface that isn't paved. How is this happening? Right now I have a bite on the top of my left breast, under and to the right of my right breast, my left rib cage, my left hip, directly on my right hipbone, and one smack in the middle of my low abdomen, right below my panty line. In the past month, I've had bites on my lower back, two on my butt, one inside my belly button, and one on the thigh/groin crease on the left side exactly where the elastic of my panty leg sits. That one was especially fun. I'm worried that the scars from these aren't going to disappear by the time I don my dance costumes for Smoker (yes, I scar from mosquito bites--not pretty). Boo. And for sure they won't be gone if I keep getting new ones. I'm not sure what to do. I'm not sure there is anything to do. Not a happy situation.
This morning the scale said 146.6 but my pants are falling off of me. My lovely high-waist, wide-legged (lined!) linen pants that I made for the Italy trip now sit at my waist and their crotch is about two inches lower than mine. *sigh* I mean, yay, but *sigh*. Looks like I'll be making myself a new summer wardrobe next year. I'm crossing my fingers for no more loss upstairs if you know what I mean.
And finally, there's sexy, there's funny sexy, there's funny nerd sexy, and then there's what the fuck. (SFW)
UPDATE: Whoa-HO! Dr. Horrible fans--did you know there are tee shirts available? Oh...bummmer. Seems they're sold out of everything. Dang.

Me. Too.
Some sort of insect--mosquito? chigger?
Is it possible that your mattress has bed bugs? Are you sleeping on a futon?

I don't think that you may have bed bugs as much as it sounds like a single or a couple of fleas. You don't have to have pets to get them. You simply have to be exposed. THen they fall off of you wherever and if they are living in your sheets, that would explain the randomness. Wash your sheets with bleach and vaccuum, yes, I said vaccuum your mattress. They stay on the surface and are easy to suck right up. Good luck ,Doll.

You might have an infestation in the house.
Wash as much as you can for clothing and sheets in hot water.
Unfortunately they can itch for as long as two weeks.
You're probably getting them just from brushing past plants on your walk home, they're horrible this year from all the wet. They sit on the highest part of a plant and wait for a nice warm human to walk by and then they go for the moist, tight areas to take their awful bites. I'm dying with them also.
I love the cowrie look, but dammit, this pisses me off:
"Romany show of wealth"
Um.
No.
North African maybe, not Romany. Dammit Sarah, I like you, but sheesh....

And yeah, Sarah seems like a really nice person, but she seems to be one of those people who takes something she hears in passing, misinterprets it, and then spreads her version along like gospel--with some truly horrific misspellings.

They don't hop around like fleas, but they can stay in the clothing you've been wearing. I also hear that rinsing your legs off really good with the hose before coming inside after being in the grass helps a lot since they can't hang on well. Hence the tight spots they like to get into.
Mum gave me a tube of something she got called AfterBite. It really helped a lot with the immediate itching. I still have to use the Neosporin Creme or I get scars from them too.
Yah, .. teh gospel of wishtory. A shame that.

I am oddly not nearly as sore as I thought I might be, which bodes well for my body surviving faire.
I think you were the one who asked about my t-shirt...this is the place I snagged it from:
Retropolis (http://shop.webomator.com/retropolis.shtml), that stuff is under the links on the right side of the page.
Note: They have very specific information regarding sizing. The style I purchased was a "form fitting style". The shirt I bought was a Large (which is called 12-14, but it's designed in this snug fit to be a 36-inch bust). So check sizing carefully...they have 3 or 4 styles that are fitted or form fitting, depending on the particular t-shirt.

I was going to make some for me, as it is apparently bug=-bite season everywhere.
Want some?
