Very meh

Hurray for Thursday night martini-drunks. Especially when you run into your new Graduate Director. And a friend who has cancer. I can now say from experience that it's easier to hear the news that a friend is terminal when you've got a few drinks in you.

I'm tired of hearing about the Olympics at work. It's the same as basketball season. Staff and faculty congregate in the hallway and discuss--loudly--the outcomes and their opinions of the games. Unfortunately for me, my interest in these conversations diminishes at about the same rate the volume of the conversations increase. Which is to say Very Rapidly.

I have absolutely no desire to be here today and very little to do. Since there's such a small incoming class this year, everybody got advised on Wednesday and the last enrollment issue was (I believe) cleared up this morning. So everybody's good to go until classes start.

*twiddles thumbs*

So. LiveJournal!

Faboo icon!

So very sorry to hear about your friend.

I can totally relate as to the Olympics thing. I have been steadfastly not paying attention (other than when I couldn't get away from the big screen at Vermont Street BBQ on Thursday), so I've had absolutely zero to add to the conversation besides "Free Tibet".

Am right there with you on the not wanting to be at work. By last night when I'd left I'd billed 36.5 hours (my normal average is 25-30 hours in a 5 day, 40 hour work week), and when I got here today the other paralegal is home with a sick kid, so its just me for the 20 attorneys I work for.

Happy Friday!

D.

Geez, wish I could help you with some of your work load. I don't even have any filing to do.

Thanks for the sympathy about R. I didn't realize she was going on her fifth recurrence. =(

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that is so very hard.

Then for your friend, I wish a minimum of pain, and a peaceful path to the door of this existence, and solace for those she leaves in her wake, including you.

Quite impressive credits as far as producer, etc.

They each take turns writing episodes. Great stuff.

I feel the same about the Olympics . . .And I find it annoying when I turn on the tv at night to veg, and that's all that on.

Sorry about your friend.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. It would be wonderful (and a miracle) if she makes it to her 50th birthday this year.

I'm so sorry about your friend.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

I know it rains on the just and the unjust alike, but stuff like this seems so wrong. She's an amazing and wonderful person. She and her husband celebrated their 37th anniversary this year, and they're one of the happiest couples I've ever known. =(

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn. That always seems to somehow .. I dunno, make it worse.
I'm glad they've had the love that so many never experience, and for that long too.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, it should be twenty-seven, not thirty-seven. But still. Yeah.

I really like that icon.

Sorry to hear the news about your friend. Bad news might be a good reason to keep a buzz going all the time.

Thanks! here is the URL for the image generator (http://www.faceyourmanga.com/faceyourmanga.php?lang=eng).

Thanks for the sympathy...and the idea! Being drunk to avoid bad news, while a stellar avoidance plan, might not be practical. I mean, after the second year of a McCain presidency, I wouldn't be able to afford booze.

I'm so sorry about your friend. I hope her journey is as gentle and painless as possible. *hugs*

For my mom's birthday, we went to Yokohama Downtown (which is completely fabulous), and sat at the sushi bar and watched part of the opening ceremonies. We had a wonderful time, and that's as much of the Olympics as I've seen or heard about.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I'm sure she would say something like "Well, after four times, at least now I know what to expect!" =/

Mmmmmmm....sushi. Yokohama is topping my list of places to eat once I'm eating starches again.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yokohama is really good. Just keep that in mind if you decide to eat there. Perhaps you can, you know, not like it too much.

Hey now, I've already been really good about staying away from Wa! =D

[identity profile] scary-manilow.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Olympics. Baseball. Sports. Bleh. I don't even know when the Olympics happen any more, I just notice a sucking presence in my vicinity when I'm in a public place that's showing them-- the same sucking presence I feel around any television set tuned into any sporting event. Unless I'm somehow making money off of it, I could clearly give a shit.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. That really sucks.

Love the new icon!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks on both counts.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry to hear that news. We all expect our friends to die in their old age, peacefully in their sleep. It is hard when we realize that won't happen to everyone we know.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. Yes, exactly.
