Use of a stage name at KCRF this year

I've always been loathe to use a stage name when I dance. Twenty years ago it was common and even a little tacky not to take a stage name as a performing belly dancer. I think for the most part they're unnecessary in this era, though. But I've been doing a lot of thinking about using a stage name at Smoker this year and I think in the interest of safety it's my best option.

There's a reason most of the KCRF whores don't use our real names when we're performing. Stalkers are creepy and a lot of not fun. I'm not fooling myself that people won't recognize me in my dance costumes, or that they won't at least recognize me as Azucena, and I don't want them knowing or using my real name when I hang with the Brothel.

I got to see a prime example of gross stalkerness at Media Party this year with [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong. While I don't have any doubts about my ability to ward off 90% of such interactions, it's just not something I want to deal with. I need my energy for other stuff that's much more fun and rewarding. Also, it's not a good sell for Smoker if a patron sees me dissing some asshole in the lane.

I'm going to use the name Lily for when I'm in Dance Persona this year. It worked well at Joplin and it's something I can remember. It also has ties to both my real name and my brothel name.

[livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy, if you could please pass this info to the rest of the LMC (since I'm not sure how many of them read LJ regularly). I'll let the drummers know.

You're welcome, and thank you!

Not to be confused with....

A stage name is a good idea. Heck, bookstores have visiting strange folks, and in one I worked for we all wore pseudonyms. My name tag said "Archimedes" for years. :)

Unfortunately not. I could never even hope to compare myself!

I <3 Madeline Kahn. *sigh*

Did you ever see this:

Yes, it's always good to be able to remember your name . . .

Dude, you've been out there at the end of a long, nasty day. It's difficult sometimes!

Or, what about Delilah. Then people could call you Delicious Delilah.

Believe me, I know! And come every weekend starting with Labor Day until Columbus Day, I am thankful, especially when it is raining, that I am no longer out there.

And there are definitely creepy people out there. For some reason while I had a booth out there, men who were complete strangers felt the need to talk to me about their penis piercings--even though I didn't say or ask anything that would prompt the conversation. And many other odd things, asking if I wanted to see them naked, and if I had ever spun pubic hair (asked while I was doing a spinning demo).
